two foundational documents have been established
to guide the childhood care and education
profession

The Oregon Registry Steps, a sequence from
Enrollment through Step 12,
  • Documents breadth of knowledge through increased
    training and education in the ten Core Knowledge
    Categories
  • Documents depth of knowledge through the three
    Sets of Knowledge (Introductory Knowledge,
    Intermediate Knowledge, and Advanced Knowledge)

  • For Step 1 through Step 6, the training
    requirements include
  • Increasing number of hours of training
  • Increasing number or Core Knowledge Categories

  • The Degree/Certificate path (left side of page)
    requires completed degrees, credentials or
    certificates
  • Documentation of completed degrees or
    certificates must be submitted, such as copies of
    transcripts, diplomas, or certificates
  • Degrees out of the field of childhood care and
    education require examination of transcripts

  • The College Course Credit (CCC) and
    Community-Based Training (CBT) path (right side
    of page) has three columns representing three
    options
  • Option 1. All training is college course credits
  • Option 2. Training is a combination of college
    course credits and community-based training
  • Option 3. All training is community-based
    training. However, please note that there is no
    CBT-only option, beginning with Step 9
  • The fourth column describes the Core Body of
    Knowledge requirements

  • The two paths continue for Step 9.5 and Step 10.
    However, there is no CBT-only option for these
    steps.
  • Step 11 requires a Master's Degree
  • Step 12 requires a Doctorate Degree
  • Degrees out of the field of childhood care and
    education require examination of transcripts.

  • Professional Enhancements are added opportunities
    to be acknowledged as a professional within the
    field of childhood care and education.
    Professional Enhancements are not required to
    apply for an Oregon Registry Step. They are
    voluntary and include
  • Professional experience
  • Personal qualities and characteristics, known as
    Personal Attributes
  • Commitment to a professional code of ethical
    conduct
  • The footnotes to the Oregon Registry Steps
    provide additional definitions or information for
    items located throughout the document

The Oregon Registry Steps reflect the Core Body
of Knowledge for Oregon childhood care and
education professionals.
  • Oregon Registry Step 1 through Step 7 require
    Introductory Knowledge in Set One
  • Oregon Registry Step 7.5 through Step 9 require
    Intermediate Knowledge in Set Two
  • Oregon Registry Step 9.5 and Step 10 require
    Advanced Knowledge in Set Three

  • Professionals can apply to the Oregon Registry
    Pathways to Professional Recognition in Childhood
    Care and Education to document their Oregon
    Registry Steps (Enrollment through Step 12) and
    their Professional Enhancements (Experience,
    Attributes, and Ethics).
  • Professionals can use the Oregon Registry Steps
    to determine their own plan for future
    professional development

Recognitionin Childhood Care and Education
is a voluntary, statewide program to document
and recognize the professional achievements of
people who work in the childhood care and
education profession

Oregon Registry Steps
  • Trainers can use the Oregon Registry Steps to
    determine the training and education needs of
    their audiences.
  • Trainers can determine which of the ten Core
    Knowledge Categories and which of the three Sets
    of Knowledge (Introductory, Intermediate, and
    Advanced) are most appropriate.
