Construction process of CAD model
  • Top down modeling techniques were used in
    construction.
  • A master part was created which contained several
    important dimensions.
  • The 8 components of the assembly are referenced
    to the master part.
  • All parts are proportional and key dimensions can
    be changed with expressions.
  • The string, cord, foot pedal and linkage is not
    included.

Normal Operation
  • Bobbin and wheel speed increase linearly with the
    speed of foot pedal pumps.
  • The current ratio between the wheel and the
    bobbin is 6.
  • This ratio could be increased for faster winding
of string but there is a point where the string
velocity will be to fast and the string may get
    tangled or damaged.

10
Flyer and Bobbin Motion
  • Users actions greatly affect motion
  • Feeding yarn onto bobbin causes flyer to shake
    motion
  • Yarn fed to bobbin too fast can cause flyer to
    rotate
  • User eventually achieves steady rhythm

Collaboration inside our team
  • Assignment allocation
  • Flyer Bobbin by Xiaoxia Lai
  • Frame by Luke
  • Wheel its axle by Abigail Clarke
  • Discussion
  • For bottom-up assembly, how to mate parts,
especially when the units of parts are different
  • Top-down assembly model, what need to go into
    master part

12
Conclusion
  • The information including the dimension and the
shape of mating faces should be discussed first
before the parts modeling for bottom-up assembly
  • Difficult to catch comprehensive design
dependency parameters when making the master part
    for top-down assembly
  • Collaboration is very important
  • When modeling parts, it is important to find the
most efficient way. And practice makes perfect!
