Title: Collaborative Research Projects CRPs
1Collaborative Research Projects (CRPs)
A multidisciplinary team of academics and end
users working in partnership to deliver a shared
research, training and knowledge transfer agenda
- High quality research
- Multidisciplinarity
- User engagement
- CRP call to be launched in 2007
2Rationale for CRPs
Who participates? Academics Industrialists Policy
makers Older people Charities
Multidisciplinarity Some substantial research
problems cannot be addressed by single
disciplines alone
Added value The whole is greater than the sum of
the parts
Responsive mode Single discipline proposals
should be sent to the most relevant Research
Council
3What does a CRP look like in NDA?
A CRP would be expected to have a core
multidisciplinary programme of work with a set of
overall objectives, led by a project coordinator
Workpackages feed into the programme of work,
possibly led by different institutions or partners
4An exemplar
Diversity issues
Process mapping and decision making
Human dynamics in crime prevention
VivaCity The 24 hour city A consortium in the
Sustainable Urban Environments Programme
Environmental quality
Provision of public conveniences
Community housing
Land use distribution
4 universities, 30 partner organisations
5There is no prescriptive model
You pose the research questions and propose an
appropriate model
CRPs must cross the remit of at least two
Research Councils
6Timeline and eligibility
- Current call for Preparatory Networks
- Priority areas highlighted but not restrictive
- Preparation for the full CRP call in 2007
- CRP call will be open to all
- No constraints on who can be involved, provided
that RC eligibility criteria are met - The research proposed must be timely and fall
within the NDA specification - Remember the triage criteria
- Details of the call yet to be finalised
7Some other thoughts
- The added value question If your CRP could be
funded through responsive mode then it is not for
NDA - Peer review You (the community) both propose
and dispose think about the aims of the
programme - Multidisciplinarity Its not easy.but the
rewards are great invest time and effort in
presenting a cohesive case
