  way
• Need for visual appeal, organization, clarity

Content Decisions

• Title
• Thesis / Abstract
• main point or research question and summary of
  findings
• Background/Introduction
• key pieces of information to understand the main
  point
• Method
• details of the methodology, examples if necessary
• Results
• which results are most important to present?
• Conclusions
• what conclusions can me made?
• Include relevant discussion

Style Decisions

• Space
• Size of final poster
• Graphics
• Illustrate with graphs and figures when possible
  to cut out text and explicate complicated
  findings
• Layout
• Choose a layout that is organized, balanced,
  features a unifying theme/tone,
• Font
• Choose a single font (2 at the most), usually
  sans serif, minimum 20 point for text, 48 for
  titles
• Color
• Maximum 2-3 unified colors
• Avoid patterns and include white space

Handouts

• Paper
• Usually a minimum of 50 copies of the paper
• Disk
• Easier to travel with
• Can include paper, poster, presentation, and
  related files
• Link
• Carry extra cue cards with a reference / link to
  the paper

• Time
• Must attend, usually no more than 1 hour
• Choose a Style
• Stand and wait
• Prepare a 3-5 minute overview verbal presentation
