THEOLOGICAL THEME AND MESSAGE

• Dominant theme (524) social justice is how to
  express true devotion.
• Though contemporary with Hosea, shows the OTHER
  side of God Judgment.
• Condemns all who make themselves powerful and
  rich at the expense of others
• God would uproot his people at the hands of a
  pagan nation (Assyria) (614)
• But ends with Gods desire to bless (911-15)

• Shortest book in the OT.

UNITY THEME

• Edom (filled with pride) will be brought down
• Edom is related to Israel, but failed to come to
  their aid
• Edom, smug in their mountain strongholds, will be
  dislodged and sacked.
• BUT, Israel will prosper because God is with her.

PROPHECY FULFILLED

• Israel would not possess the land (Ob. 17)
• Edoms curse due to bad dealings with Israel (Ob.
  10-14)
• Land Cities become waste desolate (Jer 49.17)
• Evidence of her rulers would vanish (Isa 3412)
• Thorns Thistles would thrive (Isa 3411-15)
• Edom would cease as a nation (Ob. 10, 18)
