Cost of Substance Abuse in Canada in 2002

• The cost of substance abuse in Canada was about
  56 billion in 2002. This represented about 4.92
  of the total Gross Domestic Product
• Alcohol accounted for about 19.1 billion
• Illegal drugs for about 11.2 billion.
• Tobacco abuse for about 25.7 billion or almost
  46 of total substance abuse costs
