The Basics 1

• PC connected to a splitter that shares signal
  between monitor and board.
• Whatever is on PC can be controlled from IWB.
• Smartboards in classrooms (finger!).
• Promethean ActivBoard in suite (pen).
• You cant really break them!

• To log-on to our network, you can use the user

• Only classroom PCs have relevant software.
• Software to practice with is downloadable from
  internet.

Using IWBs for TEACHING

• Displaying Learning Objectives/Success
  Criteria/Key Vocabulary
• Displaying pictures/text
• Displaying internet sites
• Displaying reminders or instructions for tasks.
• Using specific teaching software such as
  Easiteach

• Using other software to aid teaching e.g.
  Excel/Powerpoint
• Showing video/film
• Allows for quick archiving/editing of teaching
  materials.

Using IWBs for LEARNING

• Involving children in using, inputting
  information as whole class, in small groups, or
  individuals.
• Guided Reading session where children can
  highlight parts of text.
• Numeracy activity using interactive 100 squares
  or ordering numbers

• Sequencing a set of photos for writing
• Annotating diagrams
• Using ready-made learning activities from net.
• Video-conferencing
• Visualisers

• When developing your lessons think about whether
  the use of the IWB will enhance the TEACHING or
