Message from Mr Ribton
It has been a great pleasure to meet students
during my first few weeks here. As many of you
know through friends and relatives I used to be
Deputy Head at Holland Park School. So much
hard work has been done here already but the real
challenge has only just started. I am very
excited by the potential of Burlington Danes
Academy I have seen some great lessons and
highly motivated and able students. The
facilities must rank amongst the best in Central
London. We will make this an even better and
more exciting school for you. Results will
improve. The Sixth Form, starting in 2009, will
provide the target for all students to aim for.
I am really looking forward to the journey.
Mr Michael Ribton, Vice Principal
Recycling _at_ BDA
Recycling is now taking place at BDA. Classrooms
and offices have been equipped with an orange
recycling bag for items to be recycled. In
addition to this some bins in the playground area
and corridors will also have orange bags placed
in them. Please encourage your child to make
good use of these bags and bins - items such as
paper, plastic bottles without the cap, tins,
cardboard can all be recycled and placed in these
orange sacks or bins. If we all remember to
think before we bin, we can make a real
difference!

Revision Tip of the Week
Exam-busting advice from a BDA Teacher Ms
Mataria, Head of History Wake up 45 minutes
early everyday and revise! The birds are waking
up and more importantly the house is still
silent! You will also feel awake! You will get
twice as much revision done at time in the
morning than at any other time of the day.
Achieving Through Belief
3Year 8 Prison Education Day
On Tuesday 29th April Prison Me! No Way!
Visited the school and provided a variety of
workshops for Year 8 students, including showing
them a mock cell, which is true to life and makes
the students aware of how small an area two
prisoners have to share.
This is the second year that this volunteer group
has visited the school and they remarked on how
well the students behaved. Well done Year 8 and
many thanks to all the staff who participated
throughout the day. The following students won
prizes for their hard work, positive attitude and
effort - Laila Yousofi Jouman Al-Hassany
Trevena Honeywell Esra Burgeia Deshaun Blake
Sarah Hamrahan Bahgah Katamesh Saifur Zaman
Hollly Broom Jamal Yamoun Mohammed Eldien
Khasbold Ginbold Sarah Halawa hantelle
Garraghan. Congratulations to all of them. A
Selection of Students Comments The prison
exercise was scary, interesting, amazing,
shocking The fire service was interesting
because they taught us what to do if your house
is on fire It was very good because I learnt
that I shouldnt carry a knife.
Year 10 Exams Students in Year 10 should now be
revising for end of year exams, which take place
over the next few weeks. See schedule below.
Students from Key Stage 3 are invited to audition
for the Burlington Danes Summer play! The play
- Bang Out of Order has masses of opportunities
for budding actors, actresses, and artists
including six lead roles, smaller roles with
fewer lines, and later on in the term, chances to
work on costume, make up and set design.
Auditions for the play are lunchtime and after
school on Friday for years 7 and 8 and after
school on Tuesday for year 9. The sign up sheet
is with Polly Rees in Room 302.
A recent survey suggests that up to half of all
secondary school students in Britain use social
networking and instant messaging websites such as
Bebo and MSN. We would like to remind all pupils
who use these sites to keep their login and
password details safe by memorising them rather
than writing them down. This will help avoid a
couple of incidents we have come across this week
where a pupils login details have been shared or
lost, with some unwelcome consequences.
