  • Increasing proportion of the population is over
    65, and increasing number living alone
  • More older people more services
  • needed to support both
  • the illnesses of old age
  • AND more preventative services

    where one third are likely to end up as users of

    problems are working, nearly half of incapacity
    claimants

  • One of the main causes of disability later in
    life
  • Steady and dramatic rise over the next 15 years
  • Occupancy of beds in elderly persons homes
    currently occupied BY 25 of older people with
    dementia issues.
  • In nursing homes this rises to over 30

  • Early diagnosis and intervention is key to delay
    admission to long term care
  • Supporting people at home is good practice but
    carers need substantial support to do this.
