Title: Preparation
1Preparation Delivery of SermonsNOV. 6, 2008
2The content of the Preachers Message Always the
Lordship of Christ- His word
- Not the latest bright idea.
- Try to Make the Pew face these alternatives
- 1. Either in Christ, God the Creator and Redeemer
came right into human life, or else the gospel
records are lies. - 2. Either Pauls experience of being risen with
Christ is the most practical of all realities, or
else the whole make up of religion is a make
believe and sham - 3. Either the present generation can be baptized
into the very life of God or else Jesus spoke
falsely.
3A Preacher Must Preach Jesus
- An example of what Preaching Jesus fully means
and the effect it can have, - Acts 8 35. Then Philip opened his mouth, and
began at the same scripture, and preached unto
him Jesus. - 36. And as they went on their way, they came
unto a certain water and the eunuch said, See,
here is water what doth hinder me to be
baptized? - 37. And Philip said, If thou believest with all
thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and
said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of
God. - 38. And he commanded the chariot to stand
still and they went down both into the water,
both Philip and the eunuch and he baptized him.
4When texts are used to support a false teaching,
how should teachers / preachers show the truth.
- 1. John 316 doesnt mention baptism
- 2. Eph. 28-9 says we are not saved by
worksbaptism is a work. - 3. If baptism is necessary that makes water your
Savior. - 4. For the remission of sins in Acts 238 means
because of remission of sins. - 5. God spoke to me and told me I was saved before
I was baptized. - 6. Baptism has nothing to do with saving anybody.
- 7. The thief on the cross was saved without being
baptized.
5What is Astonishing
- That so many of our present day preachers can go
right on producing their revised versions of the
Christian Faith, without ever even noticing that
these polished novelties of theirs are just the
same old mildewed heresies which the ancient
church exploded hundreds of years ago.
6The Current Problem
- The weakness of the present day church lies in
the fact that she lacks this living Word the
indwelling love of the Bible as written by the
inspired writers---that she does not know any
longer the reason for her existence
---consequently she has no real message for the
present generation.
7PREACHERS MUST DEAL WITH DIFFERENT VIEWS OF TEXTS
- Mark 1616 He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved. - VARIOUS PEOPLE HOLD AT LEAST FIVE VIEWS ON THIS
SIMPLE TEXT. - View 1. He who believes and is baptized will not
be saved. - A. Atheists, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc.
- B. Some may believe in God, but not in Jesus
- I Tim. 25. For there is one God, and one
mediator between God and men, the man Christ
Jesus 6. Who gave himself a ransom for all, to
be testified in due time.
8Five views of Mark1616
- Mark 1616 He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved. - View 2. He who does not believe and is not
baptized will be saved. - Held by Universalists who use I tim. 26. Who
gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in
due time. - Jesus Mt. 713. Enter ye in at the strait
gate for wide is the gate, and broad is the way,
that leadeth to destruction, and many there be
which go in thereat - 14. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is
the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there
be that find it.
9Five views of Mark1616
- Mark 1616 He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved. - View 3. He who does not believe and is baptized
will be saved. - Held by those who practice infant baptism.
- Not only is salvation without faith by this view
but one could go further and say that one is
saved without repentance. - Did Jesus mean what he said or not?
10Five views of Mark1616
- Mark 1616 He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved. - View 4. He who believes and is not baptized will
be saved. - Hel by those who believe in salvation by faith
only. - Jesus says that faith alone does not save Mt.
721 Lk. 646 - As Taught by His bro. Jms. 214, 17, 20, 24, 26.
11Five views of Mark1616
- View 4. He who is baptized for someone who does
not believe.--Held by those who practice baptism
for the dead. Their proof text is I Cor. 1529.
Else what shall they do which are baptized for
the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are
they then baptized for the dead? - Jesus -- Lk. 1529-31
- John 16. If any man see his brother sin a sin
which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he
shall give him life for them that sin not unto
death. There is a sin unto death I do not say
that he shall pray for it.
12The True teaching of Mark1616
- View 5. Mark 1616 He that believeth and is
baptized shall be saved.
13Views of Acts 238
- 38. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. - View Repent, be saved and be baptized into some
church
14Not this predicament when Baptism is said not to
be essential to salvation.
- Baptism is necessary for membership in some
churches that teach baptism is not necessary to
go to heaven. - Conclusion It takes more to get into their
church than it does to go to heaven
15Some teach that church membership is not
essential to salvation.
- How does this make void the death of Jesus?
- How does this make salvation separate from
Christ?
16 25. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ
also loved the church, and gave himself for it
26. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with
the washing of water by the word, 27. That he
might present it to himself a glorious church,
not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing
but that it should be holy and without blemish.
