Risk Assessment Scope
3
River Corridor Source Areas Risk Assessment Scope
4
100 Area and 300 Area Component of the RCBRA
  • The risk assessment is needed to characterize
risk and to complete the CERCLA process
  • Typically part of the RI/FS process
  • Incorporates the work done for the 100-B/C Pilot,
and 100-NR-2 shoreline evaluation to present a
complete human and ecological risk assessment for
    the river corridor source areas

5
100 Area and 300 Area Component of the RCBRA
  • Quantitatively evaluates ecological and human
    health risk
  • Scheduled for completion early Fall 2007
  • Large and complex ecological and human health
    risk assessment

6
Inter-Areas Shoreline Assessment
  • Risk Assessment approach to evaluate risk in
    areas in-between reactor/industrial areas
  • Will apply approach used for the 100 and 300 Area
    risk assessment
  • Riparian and Near-shore area counterpart to the
Inter-Areas Upland evaluation, which will follow
    the Orphan Sites approach
  • Sampling will begin in early Fall 2006, with the
risk assessment scheduled for completion early
    Fall 2007

7
Columbia River Component
  • Includes presenting data evaluation and scoping
    report
  • Discussion to follow

8
Remedial Investigation Report
  • Typically (along with a feasibility study)
    evaluates the alternatives for remediation
  • For the RCC remedies are identified in the
    current RODs
  • The WCH RI will present risk assessment results
    to support final ROD decisions
  • Scheduled to occur Oct. 2007 Oct. 2008

9
Source Areas Proposed Plan
  • Identifies the preferred remedy and
  • Summarizes the information contained in the RI
    report
  • Presents rationale for the selection of the
    remedy
  • Solicits formal public review and comment
  • Scheduled for Feb. 2008 - March 2009

10
Surface Soil Surveys
  • Surveys will be conducted following completion of
    remediation in the reactor/industrial areas
  • One survey each will be performed for the 100,
    300, 400 and 600 Areas
  • The process to establish the approach will begin
    in early Fall 2006
