Title: Fishing Lodge Log Cabin Project 2006
1Fishing Lodge Log Cabin Project 2006
Countryside-Homes
At countryside Homes we can supply you with a
custom purpose built log cabin. This
presen-tation is to show our technology and
quality of workmanship through out the fitting
process of this particular project and the
un-surpassed quality and strength of the log
building itself.
2THE PROJECT MISSION
To design 2 self contained 2 bedroom log cabin
fishing lodges to sit on uneven ground at the
side of a trout fishing lake on farm land
(Pictured below). Job start to finish time from
point of order, manufacture and delivery time 6-8
weeks fitting time including base preparation
approximately 4 weeks. As well as our U.K based
construction team, we have full back up and
support from our Estonian Partners.
So whether it's a team of Estonian or U.K
carpenters to construct our log buildings, we can
fulfil all the specialist construction needs
required for any small or large cabin project
professionally.

3THE CAD FLOOR PLAN LAYOUT
This project required 2 lodges of the same design
featuring disabled ramp access with 2 bedrooms,
kitchen and bathroom/ shower facilitys, the
building itself would have an external size of
6.10m x 7.50m with a 2.0m verandah to the front
as shown below in the CAD floor plan.
4EXTERNAL CAD VISUALS
State of the art technology is used by
professional CAD designers to bring you detailed
designs and visuals of your log cabin so you can
see before hand an accurate depiction of what the
cabin will look like!

7LOG SPECIFICATION
For this project we used 88mm laminated log with
the interlocking TG system. Glue Laminated logs
are glued from two or more wooden layers so that
the heart of the wood is at the surface of the
log. Glue joints are positioned vertically, and
the moisture content of the logs when
manufactured is approximately 13. As a result of
this special production technique, laminated logs
do not split or bend. In the case of its
technical attributes, the laminated log surpasses
the conventional log by a wide margin, because
there is no need to put any vapour barrier into
the walls. We use quality trees from the Northern
Part of Europe as it is grown slowly, and this is
the reason why their wood characterizes itself
with especially closely bonded rings. This wood
is especially firm and resistant to weather
conditions, it is less tended to deform than the
wood which grows in the Southern territories. For
the manufacturing we use only this consistently
matured softwood that has been grown in these
well-groomed woods for many years from
sustainable resources...

8PREPARATION OF SITE
Firstly the exact position of the buildings are
marked out using tape and peg markers (fig. 1).
This site has sloping, un-even ground - No costly
flattening of the site using diggers is required,
we use ground drills (fig. 2) to make holes (fig.
3) into which a plastic pipe is inserted and then
filled with concrete (fig. 4) to create the
support for the base which is elevated above the
ground so that the building has an air flow
under-neath, this building will have over 13 of
these base supports (fig 5). These concrete posts
are 2m into the ground with steel rods through
the centre -
which bolt to the cabin and compensate above
ground for the sloping land so that the floor of
the building is completely level. They are
positioned so that they support the external and
internal walls of the cabin.

9DELIVERY OFF-LOADING OF PACKS
Good access to site is required to allow for
delivery of the building materials as they will
be delivered in a lorry (fig. 1), a forklift will
be required to offload on to the site (fig.2).
The timbers for your building will be flat packed
(fig. 3) and all windows and doors will be packed
separately (fig.4). All packs are completely
sealed and weather-proofed to stop the timbers
getting soiled or wet.
Site access requires maximum trailer size
Width 11 Length 40
Height 139 Fork lift with 1 ton
capability required for transporting packs

10BASE CONSTRUCTION
A good quality base will support your building
against stress caused by ground movement or
settlement, deter rot and will increase the
lifespan of your building and investment. Your
base should be level, as gauged by a spirit level
- not just flat faced but sloping for example. In
theory, if your base slopes, the building will
also lean to the slope - not ideal. In
conclusion, any prepared base area should be
level, of an even surface, in the case of this
project it would have been costly and work heavy
to dig out and level the land so concrete posts
were used using state of the art technology which
took hours to prepare not days or even weeks and
left very little excess to remove from site.
These concrete posts will also last many, many
years and will not suffer rot or decay like
conventional timber posts used . An air gap is
left underneath the building to keep the timbers
from the elements, this will later be sealed off
with log edging. The base timbers itself are
made from 4x4 treated timbers.

11SHELL CONSTRUCTION
Timbers are individually fitted into place using
the steel rods which are bolted from the base to
give strength right through all the load bearing
walls of the building. Once the shell is up the
internal work can begin on the insulated roof and
floors.
12INTERNAL FLOOR AND ROOF INSULATION
The floor 100mm insulation is laid on the
sub-frame beams with an insulated a moisture
proof chipboard strip. The insulation is laid
between the sub frame the TG flooring.
When the roof is insulated a polythene vapor
strip is fixed to the underside finished with
TG boarding. 100mm insulation is laid between
the rafters finished with chipboard to receive
roof finish 'U' value
13WINDOWS DOORS
Double-glazed sealed unit, tilt and turn windows
with security locking system/ Removable wooden
cross bars. Beautifully crafted half
double-glazed sealed unit, half wooden doors with
security locking system/ Also available in French
style all double-glazed sealed unit glass with
safety glass where required. Durable security
locks with double set keys
14CHOICE OF ROOF MATERIALS
Hexagonal Ruberoid Shingle
Square Butt Ruberoid Shingles
Ruberoid shingles consist of a heavy weight
non-rotting inert glass fibre base, coated with
oxidised bitumen and surfaced with coloured
mineral granules, available in red, green or
black. Suitable for any building, temporary or
permanent, domestic or commercial with a roof
pitch from 20 to vertical. Ruberoid shingles
will provide a long lasting, highly decorative,
weather proof finish, available in two shapes
hexagonal and square butt.
Cedar Shingles Shingles are a wooden roofing and
external cladding material - a form of tile that
is attractive, durable, versatile and effective
even on roofs with pitches as low as 14 . Cedar
shingles have a natural rich warm colour, and it
is an attractive material to use, that has
strength and incredible durability, that will
give your building a touch of individuality that
blends naturally with the environment. Natural
preservatives in the wood makes sure they will
last,
