2About Us.
- Structure An initiative of the Irish Sports
council the County Cork Local Sports Partnership
is a limited company with a Board of eighteen
Directors and a staff of six (Jan 09). - Mission To lead and coordinate the development
of sport and physical activity in Co. Cork in
partnership with local agencies, sporting
organisations and local communities. - Vision More people taking part in more sport and
physical activity for life. - Core Target Group People in Co. Cork that do not
undertake physical activity.

- Create and implement plans for long term local
sports - development
- Establish a sustainable structure to assist all
those involved in local sports development to
face the associated challenges - Deliver projects and programmes particularly for
target groups - Establish networks at local level and liaise with

- Active Communities
- This approach involves the Sports Partnership
supporting community in the county in the
development an delivery of activity programs and
initiatives. - The Sports Partnership will work in partnership
with the community to identify their needs and
through a community charter agree on a suitable
activity programme and corresponding resource
needs. - Support provided by the Sports Partnership will
include the oversight of a Sports Development
Officer, an activity grant allocation,
identifying suitable training opportunities
for community leaders and the
provision of templates.

- Individuals
- The Sports Partnership will continue to develop
coordinate the delivery of programmes and
initiatives that suit individual or small group
participation. Specific target groups include
women and older adults. - Pre-schools and Primary Schools.
- The Sports Partnership believes participation in
sport or physical activity requires that we
promote active lifestyles from an early age. - We will continue to work with parents, teachers
and schools to ensure that regular physical
activity forms a central part of a childs life
from an early age.

- Key Objectives 2009 -2011.
- Roll out the Active Communities Programme.
- Continue to roll out the Buntús Programme to
pre-schools and primary schools - Increase the awareness of parents of the Buntús
programme and benefits of a healthy lifestyle. - Promote local clubs to parents.
- Continue to deliver the Meet and Train
Initiative. - Continue to support the Go For Life programme.

- A primary role for the Sports Partnership is to
create awareness of the - importance of and opportunities for sport and
physical activity in the - county.
- We recognise three pathways to fulfil this role
- National Governing Bodies
- Clubs
- Commercial Bodies
- The national Governing Bodies structure and their
clubs offer the best - long term and sustainable pathway for individuals
while commercial - providers can support individuals where club
based - alternative opportunities are not available.

- Work with NGBs and commercial facilities in
delivering programmes and enhancing local links. - Implement a Club Development small grant scheme.
- Strengthen and develop school/club link
- Identify and support the development of minority
sports clubs - Coordinate the delivery of Sports Open Days
- Promote community based sport summer camps
- Identify and promote volunteer best practice
guidelines - Continue the roll out of the Code of Ethics and
Children Officer Training programmes

- With the support of funding from Pobal the Sports
Partnership employs a Sports Inclusion
Development Officer (SIDO) to support and promote
opportunities in sports for people with a
disability. - The SIDOs remit is to coordinate the delivery of
physical activity programmes and initiatives to
people with a disability in the county. - In particular the focus will be on club growth
and participation in the five sports prioritised
at a national level Boccia, Athletics, Swimming,
Fitness/Gym and Power Soccer.

- Establish links with key agencies and access
current provisions. - Assess and provide support to existing
clubs/groups that offer sport and physical
activity opportunities for people with a
disability. - Establish Sport and physical clubs for people
with a disability. - Promote the benefits of participation to
individuals with a disability through the
database - Develop volunteer training programme and deliver
training courses. - Initiate an access audit on sport and physical
activity facilities within the
county.

- Measuring
- Ongoing research and the analysis of this
research is required in order to identify where
we are needed, what we must do and ho we are
making a difference. - Communications
- The Sports Partnership must communicate
effectively with all our stakeholders while also
enhancing our communications resources. - Sustainability
- The target is to be 50 self financing this is
to be - achieved by our agreements with our
partner - agencies and developing new relationships
with - commercial organisations.

- As a consequence of the first stage of
development the need for specific strands of
support and resources has emerged. These strands
include a streamlined Board and project specific
sub groups. - Staff
- The expertise and skills of staff will be
supported through a formal induction process the
identification and provision of training needs
an appraisal system and comprehensive internal
communications. - Systems
- To capture the knowledge and experience of the
Partnership we will implement systems that allow
us to store, share and apply this knowledge
effectively - Planning
- The implementation of a formal planning and
review process will allow us
to identify where we are being effective
and how we build on
this.

- Update and implement operating procedures
- Undertake a biannual Partnership review and
planning process - Implement an annual staff performance review and
training needs programme - Amend the Board structure and establish subgroup

process and supporting materials. - Identify and implement a formal computer file
management and search system - Develop and implement a partner agency support
agreements - Develop and implement a suitable cost benefit
analysis.
