Where we are in Legislative Process?
  • Currently, bills that passed one chamber are
being heard and amended in the other chambers
policy committees. (House sent bills to Senate
Senate sent bills to House. These are the only
    bills alive.) Deadline tonight!
  • These bills will continue to be amended as they
move through the fiscal and rules committees and
then are voted on by all the members of each
    house.

28
Where we are in Legislative Process?
  • Two bills one from each chamber -- meant to
address the same issue, but with conflicting
elements, require a conference committee to
    resolve.
  • Any bill that the other house changes (example
House sent bill to Senate, but Senate amended)
must go back to the original house for it to
    concur with the change.
  • Bottom line, nothing is guaranteed to pass at
    this point.
