2 - STRATEGIC PLANNING AND EVIDENCE
- To provide a forum for driving some of the
following strategic agendas of Institutions - Create a more systematic national framework
for strategic planning within HEIs i.e.
encourage and support all HEIs to have a
strategic plan for sport to help raise the
profile of sport and its resourcing within
universities. - Review delivery structures and funding models
for sport within HEIs and share outcomes to
achieve a more integrated delivery of sport
within HEIs. - Work with the Good University Guide to
develop the content on sports provision. -
- Identify and prioritise required evidence
base for HE/FE sport and how that might be
produced. -
3 - 2. LEGISLATION AND REGULATORY CHANGE
- Equity identify key equity issues to be
addressed and devise a plan for how equity issues
might be addressed on a consistent basis across
HE - Disability Discrimination Act provide
guidance document on implications of DDA in HE/FE
sport good practice guide - Child Protection produce a best practice
guide including standard child protection policy
for UCS - Health Safety in sport achieve definitive
position on the role of UCS - on health safety in sport in HE/FE

- 3. QUALITY ACCREDITATION AND IMPROVEMENT
- Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme to
support and develop TASS delivery to provide
improved and more consistent support for talented
athletes in HE/FE - Adapt Towards an Excellent Service framework
and Quest to be HE-specific and devise a delivery
plan for the sector - Volunteering design a set of programmes for
the recruitment, training, deployment and
accreditation of volunteers in sport in HE,
covering the following aspects - AU club captains and officers
- Intra-mural
- Volunteering in the community
- Assisting regional, national international
events - Identify potential partners (e.g. Sport Leaders
UK) and sources of funding to achieve - national validation and accreditation.
5 - 4. STRUCTURES AND PARTNERSHIPS
- INTERNAL UCS STRUCTURES
- Continue to develop and support professional
network groups within UCS - Review UCS Executive to ensure optimal
composition to achieve objectives - Expand paid staff resource within UCS to more
effectively support UCS Executive Officer and
raise delivery capacity of UCS generally - SPORTS COUNCILS
- Continue to develop working relationship
nationally between UCS and Sport England. - Support encourage UCS regions to work with
Sport England regional - Support encourage UCS Wales, Scotland NI to
work with respective national bodies (with clear
objectives). - BUSA
- To support and assist BUSA with its strategic
review - To encourage closer collaboration of UCS
Administrators at regional levels in order to
achieve more integrated delivery of
university/student sport.
6 - HEI Network
- Support the development of the HE Sport Network
(aim to provide a strong single voice for HE
sport greater clarity in HEs capacity and
expertise to deliver across the range of
disciplines and areas). - NGBs
- Develop and strengthen working relationships
with relevant NGBs. - Partnerships
- Develop existing and new partnerships with
relevant professional organisations for joint
delivery of member services, including FIA,
ILAM/ISRM/NASD, Sports Leaders UK.
7 5. INNOVATION AND DELIVERY Design and
promote an HE-specific national health fitness
initiative Update Gym Management Manual
Design and introduce Healthy Campus Initiative
nationally across HE Monitor and develop the
delivery of PALS (Professional Athlete Life
Skills programme) across HE/FE Consider
feasibility of launching UCS Trade Forum
(possibly via a partner)
8 6. MARKETING AND PROMOTION Raise the profile
and brand awareness of UCS Continued
development of the UCS web-site Capitalise
on commercial marketing opportunities, e.g.
trade forum, sponsorship, etc Develop best
practice in marketing and promotion in sport in
HEIs in order to achieve strategic objectives
such as increasing participation and improving
the effectiveness of sport as a recruitment tool.
