  • English 4 credits
  • Math 3 credits
  • Sr.-year math-based quantitative course 1
    credit
  • Science - Lab 2 credits
  • Social Science 3 credits
  • Foreign Language 2 credits
  • Arts 1 credit
  • Total 15-16 credits
  • Quantitative math-based course required in
    senior year does not require higher level math
    than current admissions policy
  • One credit of algebra-based biology,
    chemistry, or physic required
  • for college admission in 2010-11

Revised Minimum Admission Standards
  • Mathematics3 credits
  • Ninth-grade students in 2008 and thereafter
    should begin working towards earning
  • One credit each of algebra, I geometry and
    algebra II, or three credits of integrated math
    through integrated math III.
  • One math-based quantitative credit during
    students senior year of high school.
  • Note the above requirements do not mean a higher
    level of math than current admissions policies
    algebra II or integrated math III.

  • Options for meeting senior-year quantitative
    requirement include
  • Algebra II or Integrated Math III in senior year.
  • The required algebra-based science course in
    senior year.
  • Statistics, applied math, another algebra-based
    science course or appropriate career and
    technical education courses that qualify as
    quantitative, math-based courses.
  • Substitute Provision Students who successfully
    complete math through pre-calculus would meet the
    math requirements and be exempt from the
    senior-year math requirement, even if they
    complete pre-calculus before their fourth year of
    high school.

  • Science2 credits
  • High school juniors in 2008 and thereafter must
    begin working towards earning two credits in
    laboratory sciences, including one credit of
    algebra-based biology, chemistry or physics.
  • Work can commence on meeting this requirement
    prior to the junior year.
  • The above requirement must be met for entry into
    a baccalaureate institutions beginning in 2010.

  • High school ninth-grade students in 2008 should
    begin working towards earning four credits of
    English, including
  • three credits of literature and composition
  • one credit of elective English, such as creative
    writing and English as a second language.
  • World Languages (2 credits) , Social Science (3
    credits), Arts (1 credit)
  • No changes in admissions standards.

The Transcript B Designation
  • WAC 392-415-070 requires that standardized high
    school transcripts include a B designation for
    courses that meet or satisfy CADRs
  • School district to determine which courses meet
    CADR guidelines
  • Common High School Core Course Database has been
    eliminated

CTE High School Course Equivalencies
  • RCW 28A.230.097
  • (1) Each high school or school district board of
    directors shall adopt course equivalencies for
    career and technical high school courses offered
    to students at the high school. A career and
    technical course equivalency may be for whole or
    partial credit. Each school district board of
    directors shall develop a course equivalency
    approval procedure.(2) Career and technical
    courses determined to be equivalent to academic
    core courses, in full or in part, by the high
    school or school district shall be accepted as
    meeting core requirements, including graduation
    requirements, if the courses are recorded on the
    student's transcript using the equivalent
    academic high school department designation and
    title. Full or partial credit shall be recorded
    as appropriate.

CORE 24 Policy Framework
  • The purpose of the diploma is to declare that a
    student is ready for success in postsecondary
    education, gainful employment, and citizenship,
    and is equipped with the skills to be a lifelong
    learner.  The diploma represents a balance
    between the personalized education needs of each
    student and societys needs, and reflects at its
    core the states basic education goals.  The
    diploma is a compact among students, parents,
    local school districts, the state and whatever
    institution or employer the graduate moves on
    toa compact that says the graduate has acquired
    a particular set of knowledge and skills.

Third Math Credit
  • The SBE adopted the new math credit rule to be
    effective as a graduation requirement for the
    Class of 2013
  • The three credits consist of
  • Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II or
    Integrated Math I, Integrated Math II, and
    Integrated Math III or
  • An approved career and technical education (CTE)
    course that aligns with the standards may be
    taken to complete any of these credits
  • The third credit may also be completed through
    election of an alternative math credit that leads
    to a specific career goal identified in the High
    School and Beyond Plan
