7What qualifications and experience will
employers look for ?
- To qualify as a fitness instructor, you could
either complete a nationally-recognised
vocational qualification before starting work. - Or start as an assistant instructor and complete
work-based qualifications.
8Nationally-recognised vocational qualification
- The Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing
- Approved by the Register of Exercise
Professionals (REPs), and is the preferred
industry standard. - Which is awarded by City Guilds, Active IQ,
VTCT, CYQ, OCR and NCFE.
9Work-based qualifications
- You may be able to start as an assistant
instructor and complete qualifications whilst
working under the supervision of a qualified
instructor. - As an assistant fitness instructor you could work
towards NVQ Level 2 in Instructing Exercise and
Fitness - This is awarded by City Guilds, CYQ, Active IQ,
Edexcel, OCR and VTCT.
10What salary can I expect?
- Starting salaries can be around 13,000 a year.
- This can rise to from around 14,000 to over
20,000. - Freelance instructors can earn 10 to 40 an
hour. -
