Title: IMPLEMENTATION OF THE WELDER GUIDELINE FINLAND

1
IMPLEMENTATION OF THE WELDER GUIDELINEFINLAND
  • General
  • In the year 1999 the first professional
    examination (Plater-Welder) was revised including
the requirements of European Welder guideline
  • During the following years 2000 - 2005 also other
    welding related examinations (Welder, Welding
Master, Industrial Pipe fitter) were revised
according to EWF or IIW requirements
  • The national examinations have been prepared in
good and close co-operation between ministry of
Education, Finnish industry and the Welding
    Society
  • Until the 25th of October 2005 the following
    EW/IW diplomas have been issued 1008 EFW/IFW,
557 EPW/IPW and 578 ETW/ITW. The most part of the
EW/IW diplomas are sub examinations for the
    national professional welding related
    examinations

2
WELDERS PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION
  • Welding
  • Requirements of general basic welding knowledge
    and skills
  • Proving of welding skills
  • 3 different processes
  • ETW/ITW (European or International Tube Welder).
    With one of the processes
  • 111 Manual Metal Arc welding
  • 135 MAG-welding or 136 MAG-tubular cored wire
    welding or 131 MIG-welding
  • 141 TIG-welding
  • EPW/IPW (European or International Plate Welder).
With another one of the above mentioned processes
  • EFW/IFW (European or International Fillet
Welder). With the third one of the above
    mentioned processes

3
WELDERS PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION
  • Theoretical Examination
  • one multi choice examination will be arranged
taking into account the welding processes
111,131/135/136, 141 for steel and aluminium, as
    appropriate
  • Multi choice questions, approval of examination
requires at least 60 of maximum points
  • Welders qualification tests
  • In accordance with SFS-EN 287
  • The examiner will be approved by the Chief
Executive. The examiner shall not be involved in
the practical training and shall have an E/IWE-,
    E/IWT- or E/IWS-diploma
  • Copies of the students qualification tests
certificates shall be stored at least 5 years
    under locked conditions.
  • The certificates of the welding teachers shall be
stored as long as they are valid, but at least
    for period between two audits.
  • The test pieces from the qualification tests
shall be stored until a follow-up or surveillance
audit has been carried out. If the amount of test
pieces becomes great the Chief Executive chooses
a suitable number of candidates (e.g. three)
whose test pieces will be stored.

WELDERS PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION
  • Materials
  • Welding skills shall be proved at least with two
    different materials (different material groups)
  • Weldable parent material shall be chosen
separately for each welding process (one
process/one material, it is however possible to
use the same material for two processes of the
    three chosen ones)
  • One of chosen materials must be steel
  • If the chosen material belong to the groups of
13 or 9.1, may the other chosen material belong
to the group of 7, 8 or 10.
  • If the chosen material belongs to the groups of
7, 8 or 10, may the other material belong to the
    group of 16 or 9.1.
  • The other or the third chosen material may be
also be aluminium, copper, titanium or other
    weldable material
  • The material for each process shall be the same
when continuing from one level to another
    EFW/IFW? EPW/IPW? ETW/ITW

PLATER-WELDERS PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION
  • Materials for welding and plate work
  • Welding and plate work can be proved with 1-, 2-,
    3- and/or 11 - group materials
  • When a student specializes in fabrication of
stainless steel products he/she can use 8- and/or
11 - group materials in welding and plate work
    tests
  • When a student specializes in fabrication of
    aluminium products he/she can use 21-, 22- and/or
23 - group materials in welding and plate work
    tests
  • When a student specializes in stainless steel or
aluminium in fabricated products it compensates
    materials of 1-,2-,3 and/or 11 - group in tests
  • It is recommended to choose such a material for
welding tests which gives the widest range of
    qualification
