Assistance to Shopkeepers

Income Generation Scheme
  • Financial assistance is provided for business
    like
  • (a) shop (b) cottage unit ( c) bakery (d)
    handicraft ( e) weaving unit (f) dairy (g)
    poultry (h) bee keeping etc.
  • 80 of the required fund upto Rs. 30,000/- is
    provided by SJVN as grant
  • Till date 55 families have been provided
    financial assistance under the scheme.

Merit scholarship for the Wards of PAFs
  • Provision for providing scholarship to students
    pursuing technical education
  • ITI - 30 students to be selected every
    year scholarship.
  • Diploma - 06 students to be selected every
    year
  • scholarship.
  • Engineering - 04 students to be selected
    every / Medical year scholarship
  • So far 58 students have availed the benefits.

Apprenticeship Scheme for Local Students
  • 15 students per year are provided Apprenticeship
    in Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station.
  • ITI 10 students are provided apprenticeship per
    year and they are provided stipend.
  • Diploma 5 students are provided apprenticeship
    per year and they are provided stipend.

Women Development
  • The forum of women are provided financial
    assistance under recurring annual budget plan.
  • 10 Mahila Mandals (women forum) are provided
    financial assistance every year for construction
    of Mahila Mandals.

Panchayat Infrastructural Works
  • 20 panchayats have been identified in project
    area for infrastructural works.
  • Every panchayats have been allotted certain
    percentage marks based on area of land acquired,
    population, backwardness of the panchayats etc.

  • The works executed under the scheme are
    construction of village path, school play ground,
    Panchayat Building, street light etc.
  • The works are executed based on the requests
    received from the Panchayats

  • The scheme is operated by Recurring Annual
    Budget of Rs. 250/- lacs . These funds are
    allocated per panchayat based on percentage marks
    allotted to the panchyats.
  • 10 0f the above funds are utilized on the
    discretion of Head of the Project.

Technical Education Scheme for Local Youths
  • The scheme is being executed for encouraging
    local youths for technical education.
  • Seats in different trades of ITI in HP state are
    arranged Industrial Training Deptt. Of HP Govt..
  • 35 students are selected every year for
    different trades like Fitter, Electrician,
    Computer etc.
  • Expenditure like tuition fee, examination fee
    etc. are borne by SJVN.
  • The students are also paid scholarship by SJVN.
  • So far 105 students have availed the benefits.

Petty Contract to the Local Contracts
  • Preference is given to D-type local contractors
    for awarding works upto Rs. 10 lacs, like
    Sweeping, Township Maintenance etc.
  • Financial limit for D-type contractors is as per
    State Govt. norms.
  • Contractors are advised to engage laborers from
    locals
  • Vehicles from locals are hired on preference
    basis.

Farm Support services
  • Provision has been made for organizing
    Agricultural, Horticultural and Veterinary Camps
    in villages.
  • Trainings are imparted by experts.

  • Farmers are exposed to new technical know-how.
  • Farmers are provided incentives in the form of
    small farm tools, seeds, fertilizers etc. in the
    camps/ training programmes.

Mobile health van
  • Mobile Health Vans ( MHVs) have been put in for
    providing free medical services medicines in
    the project area villages.
  • The MHV is accompanied by doctor and para medical
    staffs.

  • The MHV visits twice a week in different
    villages.
  • Approx. one thousands patients are provided
    medical services/free medicines per month.
  • So far SJVN has spent Rs. 38 lacs on Mobile
    Health Vans and 40000 patients has been provided
    medical facility.

Drinking Water Facility
  • Natural water sources around the project area
    villages are renovated and installed under this
    scheme.
  • 9 Water Supply Schemes covering 20 villages at
    the cost of Rs. 127 Lacs have been renovated /
    installed .
  • 13 other Water Supply Schemes are under process
    to be installed.

Infrastructural schemes for schools
  • The schools situated in project area panchayats
    are benefited under the scheme.
  • First grant is provided to schools for plantation
    around the schools _at_ Rs. 50/- per students upto
    Rs. 10000/ -
  • Under second and third grants ( after 3 years of
    second grant) schools is provided infrastructural
    facilities like, furniture, teaching aids, sports
    items and musical items etc.

  • The funds limits are as under
  • primary schools- Rs. 75,000/-
  • Middle schools - Rs. 1,00,000/-
  • High schools - Rs. 1,75,000/-
  • Sr. Sec. Schools Rs. 2,00,000/-
  • So far furniture, teaching aids, plant saplings
    etc. have been provided to the schools at a cost
    of Rs. 15 lacs.

Relief Works as Social Responsibility(Kandhar
village)
Kandhar Vill.
  • Natural Landslide in village Kandhar occurred in
    2005.
  • SJVN as part of Social Responsibility provided
    them a colony with temporary shelters.
  • Further SJVN provided all 45 villagers Rs. 10.08
    millions to construct new houses.

Relief works in other villages around the Project
  • SJVN provided relief measures in villages Katgaon
    and Sarpara near project area when the villages
    were caught by Fire.
  • During flood disaster SJVN has provided relief
    measure to the affected villages.
  • The area around the project is landslide prone.
    On account of natural slides cracks were
    developed in the houses of villagers, SJVN as a
    part of Social Responsibility provided Rs. 555
    lacs to appx. 6000 house dwellers in 68 villages.

Relief Works as Social Responsibility(Nathpa
village)
  • A natural land slide occurred in village Nathpa,
    Distt. Kinnaur in January 2008. All 82 families
    of village Nathpa were provided temporary house
    dwelling units at cost of Rs. 5.14 lacs.
  • SJVN has provided Rs. 2.96 millions to HP PWD
    Deptt. to construct a ropeway from National
    Highway -22 to village Nathpa. This will
    facilitate the villagers to carry their goods.

Contribution to Prime Ministers Relief Funds
SJVN Provided Rs. 25 millions to Prime Ministers
Relief Funds for relief measures for the families
affected by flood in river Koshi in Bihar
occurred in the year 2008.

  • Financial Assistance provided to HP Govt. for
    construction of 200 bedded Mahatma Gandhi
    Hospital at Rampur - Rs.80 miiliomns.
  • Financial assistance provided to HP govt. for
    construction of 23 Kms. Long By-pass road taking
    off from NH-22 near Rampur Rs. 200 millions.

The success of the social development activities
undertaken in this project is quite rare for
India, and can be considered as one of the best
examples of social work in bank-assisted projects
in India. It should both exemplified and emulated
