Title: Welcome to the Defense of Rebecca Gammill

1
Welcome to the Defense of Rebecca Gammill
  • An In-Depth Look at My Experiences Throughout the
    TIP Program

2
What were my initial goals in the program?
  • Gain more knowledge about technology integration
    professionally, theoretically, and in practice.
  • Learn more about technology (specifically web
    building and using educational resources.)
  • Gain a competitive edge within my workforce.

3
Have those goals changed over time? (if so, how?)
  • My goals have evolved and my opportunities have
    widened.
  • Want to teach students AND teachers
  • Want to teach mathematics AND technology
  • Want to learn about mathematics AND technology
  • I can see myself working in both a classroom and
    at the district level.

4
Turning Points
  • EDIT 6190 Being challenged to learn more about
a software individually. I feel as if I spent my
time forming puzzles, solving problems, and
    celebrating achievements.
  • Internship Conversations and experiences that
enlightened me to the pressures and rewards of
    technology integration.

5
Has the TIP Program Supported / Not Supported
These Goals?
  • I have gotten a taste of many aspects of
    technology integration through
  • collaborative projects
  • theoretical discussions
  • interviews
  • workshops
  • hands-on projects
  • presentations,
  • mode of communication within online classes.

6
Has the TIP Program Supported / Not Supported
These Goals?
  • Did not offer opportunities to learn about basic
    educational software and peripherals
  • Microsoft Word Forms
  • CBLs and Graphing Calculators
  • Class remotes for answering MC questions
  • Hook ups for LCD projectors
  • Long distance learning environment is conducive
    to miscommunication.
  • Class expectations were sometimes unclear
  • Hard to reach advisors due to overloaded schedule.

7
Biggest Takeaways
  • Instructional Technology is problem solving in
    action
  • Instructional Technologist have to be computer
    friendly AND people friendly.
  • I am up for the challenge

8
How do these takeaways impact/influence your next
steps?
  • Short term, I plan on networking within my school
to illustrate to others that I want to use
technology in my classroom, help others learn how
to use it in their classroom, and learn more
    about technology integration by attending
workshops and conferences. By building trust
within the faculty, collaboration and technology
integration is more likely to occur.
  • I will get a specialist within the next few years
and will pursue a specialist in IT because of the
wide range of opportunities that will open up for
me within my county. With the Power 2 Learn
Initiative on the way, there are going to be more
areas for instructional technologists to train
employees, collaborate with teachers to integrate
technology, and try new ways to incorporate
    technology into the classrooms.

9
Projects in which I Am The Most Pleased.
  • My ePortfolio
  • Illustrates my growth in writing, site building,
    and technology integration connections.
  • I incorporated frames, columns, Flash, Flash
    Paper, Freehand, Dreamweaver Projects, and
    Microsoft Word Websites.
  • Internship
  • Complete with conferences, interviews, and
    workshops.
