Overview
  • This unit explores the world of butterflies by
    looking at their lifecycle, their physical
    appearance, their food sources and their
    motility.
  • This unit is for Pre-Kindergarten. It can be
    adapted for preschool as well as kindergarten and
    up. The content areas involves the following
    areas science, social studies, creative and
    social development.

Overview
  • The Georgia Pre-K standards that are covered
    are as follows
  • Science SD2 Children will acquire scientific
    knowledge related to life science.
  • Social Studies SS1 Children will develop an
    appreciation of his/her role as a member of the
    family, classroom and community.
  • Creative development CD2 Children will
    participate in music and movement activities.

Introduction
Lets pretend we are caterpillars and
butterflies. We live in the town of Lep. Our
town is a fun place to live. There are lots of
places to work and play.

Caterpillars of Lep
  • What are caterpillars?
  • Caterpillars are small bugs that look like
    colorful worms with tiny legs.
  • Caterpillars chew their food using their mouths
    just like you do. They like to eat leaves and
    flowers.
  • Caterpillars get to their food with by crawling
    with all their legs.

Butterflies of Lep
  • What are butterflies?
  • Butterflies are bugs that have colorful wings.
  • Butterflies drink their food like you
  • drink from a straw. They like to drink nectar
    from fruits and flowers.
  • Butterflies fly to get their food.

Lets go to work with a partner at a
restaurant, a clothes store,
as a doctor, a health club
and a theater .

At the restaurant you will make menus
for the caterpillars and the butterflies.

At the clothes store you sell clothes for the
caterpillars and the butterflies. You need

As the doctor you take care of the
