Title: The Business

1
The Business Innovation Center as the best tool
to stimulate innovation entrepreneurship
  • How can we innovate the business model of a
Business Innovation Center in order to make the
BIC a better and cheaper tool with no compromise
    to quality and results

2
Campus Ecosystem models for Business
Innovation
  • We have implemented these 2 powerful models of a
    Business Innovation Center.
  • What is needed now is the web based information
management system to allow the deployment of such
    models.

3
The BIC is a service provider
  • Integration coordination of a BICs set of
services is very complex, because these tasks are
    generally performed by different teams
    entities.
  • How to operate a soft integration of various
teams entities in order to deliver a virtually
integrated BIC with a bigger and cheaper impact ?

4
Campus Ecosystem model
  • The campus concept means different functions
services located in one or couple of buildings
    close each other.
  • The ecosystem concept means various system
components (teams entities) acting together in
an informal/natural way combined to deliver a
    virtually integrated organization.

5
Private Public sustainable model
  • Private public partnership is the best solution.
Public money can finance part of the activity,
but governance must be controlled by a private
    entity.
  • In order to be sustainable, independent
financially autonomous, the Innovation set of
services are integrated along with other for
    profit activities.
  • The goal is that the ecosystem become self
sufficient and profitable after 5 years.

Do we need specific tools to manage a Campus
Ecosystem ?
  • The BIC approach concept must be deployed in a
wider economic social space than into a center
    only.
  • We are convinced that the Business Innovation
Campus Ecosystem is good, and it never has been
    done in a integrated way.
  • 2 sets of tools to deploy manage
  • Space, real estate infrastructure the
hospitality services and the resource center.
Customer buys receive the service (office,
    telecom, meeting room, food.)
  • The notion of ecosystem many services available
in one place but produced by different
organizations how to align coordinate, to
    report measure performance

9
Description of the best tool
  • Based on the Campus mode experience and
practice, a web based tool aimed at managing the
    innovation and entrepreneurship stimulation is
    now under development.
  • The basic idea consists in putting the
entrepreneur, project, or start-up back to the
center of every single service and action
provided by any member of the BICs ecosystem
(team, premises, talent pool, technical work,
    financing ).
  • The same way a CRM system works, when a BIC team
member retrieves the information from the system
he obtains a global view of all elements of
support already provided by every contributors of
different entities forming the BICs Campus.
  • The system also keeps track of recommendations
made and can be programmed to alert the
    entrepreneur of his commitments.

10
Partnerships (both public private)
  • This tool is under development and is been
designed by a consortium of the member of the
    Antipolis Innovation Campus. The consortium
    members are
  • The BIC entity (AIC), the real estate management
    company (BRISP)
  • An MBA team from the (CERAM) Business school
  • The Sophia Business Angels Club (SBA).
  • An informal partnership with the Regional Network
of Innovation has been put in place to make sure
the system fits with the public requirements for
reporting in case of public financing and support.

11
how the system can be considered sustainable
  • After (collectively) designing the needs and
    functionalities requirements, a software
    development company has been appointed
    (BroadSofware) to realize the developments.
  • The first 50 K have been contributed the company
Everest, an engineering company based in Brussels.

12
How transferable is the tool ?
  • We are describing here a set of web based
software operated in a ASP (Application Service
Provider) mode, or SAS (Software As a Service).
  • The operations, administration and hosting will
be based and monitored by the company KAST
    Telecom.
  • The application infrastructure will ne hosted in
the Sophia Antipolis Euclid data center (where
Air France is expending right now).
  • The system will be used on monthly a subscription
    base

13
Qualitative and quantitative results
  • Ability to track actions within a distributed
    environment
  • Implementation of a trusted reporting system
  • Valorization and evaluation of every contribution
  • Integration of the investors activity with the
    talent pool activity

14
Ability to track actions
  • Ability to track actions within a
distributed environment, when the BIC is
virtually formed between many different legal
    entities.
  • This will allow implementing the quality
system and labeling to a consortium of entities
working together on the BICs missions.

15
Implementation of a trusted reporting system
  • Implementation of a trusted reporting system
on actions and results, including alignment with
the accountant system to match budget figures
    with on field reality.

16
Contributions' valorization evaluation
  • Valorization and evaluation of the voluntary
contributors to the BICs mission, to better
evaluate the real budget cost of a BIC and to
engage the public contributors to a
    private-public matching system.

17
Integration of the investors activity
  • Integration of the investors activity with
the talent pool activity and the incubators
activity projects and start-ups clear and
precise information and follow-up data need to be
shared among these categories in order to
    eliminate/redesign the bad projects and
redirect resources towards the good projects.
