Mission of Sandersville Technical College
  • Sandersville Technical College, a member of
    the Technical College System of Georgia, offers
    quality technical and continuing education,
    business and industry services, and adult
    education services. The College provides
    educational, career, and economic development
    opportunities in a student-centered learning
    environment for the citizens and communities of
    Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Warren, and
    Washington Counties through associate degrees,
    diplomas, technical certificates of credit, and
    non-credit certificates.

Registration Phases
  • Advanced/Returning Student Registration
  • This registration takes place 2 - 3 weeks prior
    to the start of the quarter and is available to
    currently enrolled students only. Check the
    calendar in the Student Handbook and Catalog or
    on the STC Web site for dates.
  • New Student Registration
  • New Student Registration is held at each campus
    on designated dates near the end of each
    quarter. Late registration is usually held on
    the main campus one week prior to the start of
    classes and is available to new and returning
    students. NOTE CTD, CMS, and Dual Enrollment
    classes register at designated periods during the
    quarter.

Instructional Technology Fee
  • A 35 Instructional Technology fee is charged at
    all Georgia technical colleges.
  • This fee allows the college to continually
    upgrade computers and other technology required
    in your courses of study. It does not guarantee
    unlimited internet access. For more
    information, review the Student Code of Conduct
    in your STC Handbook.
  • THIS FEE IS NOT COVERED BY HOPE. HOWEVER, YOU
    MAY USE YOUR HOPE BOOK FUNDS TO COVER THIS FEE.
    TO DO THIS, YOU MUST SIGN YOUR REGISTRATION FORM
    AND TURN THE FORM IN TO THE REGISTRARS OFFICE!
    WITHOUT YOUR SIGNATURE, WE CANNOT USE THE HOPE
    BOOK MONEY TO COVER THE FEE.

Other Costs
  • There may be other costs associated with your
    program of study. Please check the Student
    Handbook and Catalog and the STC Web Site.
  • Practical Nursing, Medical Assisting, Certified
    Nurse Assisting, Cosmetology, and Health Care
    Assistant students must pay an annual 11
    clinical liability fee. This fee is not covered
    by HOPE.
  • There is an additional fee in the ECCE program
    for CPR training.
  • The Commercial Truck Driving program requires
    students pay an 84 fuel surcharge.

Admissions
  • The mission of the Admissions Office is to assist
    the College in recruiting, assessing, and
    accepting qualified applicants to the college.
    The Admissions Office adheres to the American
    Association of College Registrars and Admissions
    Officers Professional Practices and Ethical
    Standards in the admission of all students.

Financial Aid
  • The mission of the Financial Aid Office (FAO) is
    to provide financial aid information and
    resources to students in order to assist with
    access and continued enrollment at STC.
  • The FAO at STC administers the Pell Grant, FWS,
    SEOG, LEAP, the HOPE Grant and the HOPE
    Scholarship. The FAO adheres to the National
    Association of Student Aid Administrators
    Statement of Good Practice in the administration
    of all programs and in the disclosure of
    information to other parties.

  • Apply early! You must apply every year the new
    year begins EVERY July. You should apply for the
    new year by April!!!
  • Answer every question honestly.
  • Open read all correspondence from the FA
    Office. RESPOND IMMEDIATELY to all requests for
    additional information.
  • KEEP ALL FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION IN A SAFE
    PLACE.

  • May and Smith Funeral Directors Scholarship
  • Scholarship is available to a Washington County
    High School Senior who plans to attend
    Sandersville Technical College.
  • Georgia Mining Foundation Scholarships
  • The Georgia Mining Foundation normally awards
    scholarships to students attending one of three
    technical colleges in Georgia. The GMF announces
    the scholarship annually.
  • Sterrett Nursing Scholarship
  • Scholarship is awarded annually to two Practical
    Nursing students enrolling in Nursing 110.

  • Bennie Pete Bryan Welding Scholarship
  • Scholarship is available to two Washington County
    residents who will be or are currently enrolled
    in STCs Welding Diploma program.
  • Janice Jackson Lending Library
  • This is a book LOAN program available to students
    on a first-come, first-qualified basis. Students
    must complete the HOPE and FASFA forms FIRST and
    an application which is available in the Student
    Affairs division, Special Populations
    Coordinators office.

  • The mission of the Career Services Office is to
    be a resource designed to assist students in
    self-assessment, career exploration,
    decision-making and career planning and
    placement. The Office works with employers in
    the Service Delivery Area to provide qualified
    employees for business and industry.

  • Sandersville Technical College offers
    accommodations and services to assist students
    with disabilities achieve their educational
    goals. The Dean of Student Affairs works with
    students and their instructors to assure
    appropriate accommodations are provided.

How to Request Accommodations for a Disability
  • In order to receive and maintain services, a
    student with a disability must
  • Be otherwise qualified for admissions to or
    participation in a program of study with or
    without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Disclose (notify) and provide the appropriate
    documentation to the Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Appropriate documentation includes medical or
    psychological evaluations not more than 3 years
    old which contain intellectual and achievement
    scores, strengths and weaknesses related to the
    classroom performance, and recommendations for
    academic accommodations.

  • Classroom accommodations must be requested each
    and every quarter by providing the Dean of
    Student Affairs a copy of class schedule.

  • Special Populations assistance is provided to
    students from economically disadvantaged
    families, those preparing for non-traditional
    fields, single parents including single pregnant
    women, displaced homemakers, students with
    disabilities, and students with limited English
    proficiency.

  • STCs Assessment Center provides testing and
    assessment services to students, applicants, and
    employees of area business and industry.
    Assessments available include COMPASS,
    CareerScope (if youre undecided about a major),
    WorkKeys, CAP, MOUS, NOCTI, TABE, and others.
    COMPASS, WorkKeys, and CareerScope are also
    available at the Jefferson and Hancock Centers.

Student Government Association
  • The Student Government Association (SGA), which
    is composed of representatives from the student
    body, promotes the school to the community and
    works to improve the quality of technical
    education. SGA meets monthly and organizes
    campus activities for each quarter. SGA also
    provides a forum for student expression and a
    channel of communication between students and
    administration/faculty.

Phi Beta Lambda
  • Membership is open to all students interested in
    pursuing a business or business-related career.
    Membership in PBL helps students learn about
    business and what will be expected of them in the
    workplace. Through PBL, students learn to lead
    and participate in group discussions, preside at
    meetings and conferences, work within committees,
    and engage in practical decision making and
    problem solving.

Rotaract
  • Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for
    students and alumni who are sponsored by a local
    Rotary club making them true "partners in
    service" and key members of the Rotary family.  
    Rotaract clubs organize a variety of projects and
    activities to address the physical and social
    needs of their communities while promoting
    international understanding and peace.

National Technical Honor Society
  • After completing 30 credit hours, Diploma- and
    Degree-seeking students attaining a 3.5
    cumulative grade point average or higher are
    asked to join National Technical Honor Society
    at STC. The mission of NTHS is to recognize
    individual student achievement and excellence in
    workforce education and to encourage leadership,
    citizenship, integrity, and responsibility.

Parents Supporting Parents
  • The purpose of this group is to bring together
    students including single parents, displaced
    homemakers, non-traditional students, and any
    others in an effort to provide valuable
    resources, support, and encouragement during
    their studies at Sandersville Tech. Meetings are
    held quarterly at the Main Campus and the
    Jefferson and Hancock Centers.

STC Book Club
  • Sandersville Technical College offers a student,
    faculty, and staff Book Club on campus.  Book
    Club members read one book per month, and then
    meet to discuss it.  Books include fiction,
    non-fiction, autobiographies, and biographies.
    The Book Club offers the chance to get to know
    others on campus AND to improve your reading
    skills.

GOAL
  • The GOAL (Georgia Occupational Award of
    Leadership) program is co-sponsored statewide by
    the Business Council of Georgia and the State
    Board of the Technical College System of Georgia.
    Sandersville Technical College and its Student
    Government Association co-sponsor GOAL locally.
  • The main objectives of the GOAL program are to
    spotlight the importance of technical education
    in a modern society, to reward students who excel
    in learning a skill, to encourage pride in
    workmanship, to generate a greater respect and
    appreciation for the working person, and to
    emphasize the dignity of work in todays society.

STC Ambassadors
  • The Ambassadors Program is comprised of an elite
    group of students who represent STC and the
    student body. Responsibilities include giving
    tours for campus visitors, assisting with
    orientation and registration for new students,
    recruiting prospective students, and assisting
    with other college activities. The Ambassadors
    are students who were nominated for the GOAL
    program by their instructors.

  • Provides students an opportunity to participate
    in a seamless educational system that includes
    high-level academic and technical preparation for
    workforce readiness and lifelong learning and

    course content, or loss of credit.

High School Articulation
  • Recent high school graduates may be eligible to
    articulate, or transfer, some high school course
    credit to Sandersville Tech.
  • Criteria for Articulation
  • Student must have achieved a minimum of 85 as the
    high school course grade and presented the high
    school transcript prior to enrollment.
  • Student must be accepted to Sandersville Tech
    within 18 months of graduation from high school.
  • Student must successfully validate credit.

Associate of Applied Science Degree Information
  • All students desiring to change their program of
    study to an Associate Degree of Applied Science
    should visit the Student Affairs Office and make
    an appointment with the Registrar the Director
    of Admissions by midterm.

Transferability of Courses and Programs
  • All Associate of Applied Science Degree programs
    offered at Sandersville Technical College are
    terminal programs.
  • Acceptance of transfer credit from Sandersville
    Technical College is the decision of the
    receiving institution.
  • Questions concerning the transferability of
    courses and programs must be addressed with the
    receiving institution prior to taking the courses
    or programs, if a higher level of degree is being
    sought.

SRTK Graduation Rates
  • To comply with the disclosure of graduation rates
    under the Student Right-To-Know Act, a cohort
    group (i.e. those students enrolling for the
    first time at the post-secondary level at this
    institution on a full-time basis.) is established
    each Fall Quarter.
  • The graduation rates are available to all
    prospective students and given to all new
    students at Orientation. The statistics are

  • Obtain a withdrawal form from your advisor,
    instructor, or Student Affairs.
  • Take the form to your instructor(s) who will
    assign a grade of W, WP, or WF and
    withdrawal date.

    VERY important to turn this form in ASAP.

Crime Statistics
  • Sandersville Tech administration maintains an
    updated record of all criminal activities
    reported on campus by staff and the Hancock,
    Jefferson, and Washington County Sheriffs
    Departments, and the Sandersville Police
    Department. These statistics are printed annually
    and are made available to all prospective
    students, currently enrolled students, and
    employees.

Sexual Harassment Policy
  • Sexual harassment of employees and students at
    Sandersville Technical College is strictly
    prohibited.
  • Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination
    and is a violation of state and federal law as
    well as of the policy of the Technical College
    System of Georgia.
  • Non-compliance with this policy is grounds for
    disciplinary measures, including dismissal, as
    deemed necessary by the colleges president.
  • It is the intent of Sandersville Technical
    College to provide an academic and work
    environment, which is free, of any type of
    discrimination, including sexual harassment.

Student Code of Conduct
  • Sandersville Technical College students assume an
    obligation to act in a manner compatible with the
    fulfillment of the mission of the College.
  • The Technical College community recognizes its
    responsibility to provide an atmosphere conducive
    to growth. With these principles in mind, the
    Sandersville Technical College Student Body
    Association in conjunction with the Student
    Affairs Office established this Student Code of
    Conduct.
  • The Student Code of Conduct is located in the STC
    Student Handbook and Catalog and on the STC Web

Grievance Policy
  • If there is a grievance or complaint, a student
    should first discuss the issue with the
    instructor or staff member involved.
  • If not satisfactorily resolved, then the student
    should follow the Student Grievance policy.
  • The policy is posted in the Student Center, on

    Catalog.

  • Presidents List students who achieve a 3.5 or
    higher GPA quarterly.
  • Honor Graduate degree or diploma program
    graduate with a GPA of 3.5 or higher in program
    required courses with no grade below a C.
  • National Technical Honor Society after
    completing 30 credit hours diploma and degree
    seeking students attaining a 3.5 or higher.

Grade Point Average
  • Quarterly GPA -
  • is calculated by dividing the total number of
    quality points by the total number of credit
    hours attempted in a quarter.
  • Cumulative GPA -
  • is an attempt to reflect the total credit
    instructional activity of the student. The CGPA
    is not affected by program of study, changes in
    program of study, or student classification. The
    cumulative grade point average is that grade
    point average calculated on all attempts at all
    credit courses taken at the institution. The
    cumulative grade point average is recalculated
    after each quarter to include the current
    quarters grades.
  • Graduation GPA -
  • is calculated only on those courses required for
    graduation. When a course is taken more than
    once, the final grade will be used in calculating
    the grade point average for graduation. A 2.0
    grade point average is needed for graduation.

Probation
  • A student who fails to maintain a 2.0 GPA for all
    work attempted in any quarter shall be placed on
    academic probation. The purpose of academic
    probation is to alert students to the fact that
    their academic performance is not acceptable and
    to point out the possible consequences if
    improvement is not made during the next quarter
    of enrollment.
  • A student placed on academic probation (or
    admitted on probation) must attain a minimum 2.0
    GPA during the next quarter in attendance to
    remove his/herself from probationary status. A
    student who fails to do so is subject to academic
    suspension. Students may not graduate while on
    probationary status.
  • Applicants who are on academic probation or have
    a cumulative GPA under 2.0 at their previous
    institution may be accepted on academic
    probation. Students admitted on probation must
    attain a minimum 2.0 GPA during the next quarter
    in attendance to be removed from probationary
    status.

Suspension
  • A student who fails to remove him/herself from
    academic probation by attaining a minimum 2.0 GPA
    the next quarter in attendance after being placed
    on probation is subject to academic suspension
    and dismissal. During the first quarter of
    enrollment after academic suspension, a student
    is placed on academic probation.
  • A student who is academically dismissed must stay
    out of school one quarter before petitioning for
    readmission.
  • A second academic dismissal will constitute a
    final dismissal.

Student Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • To maintain eligibility for receipt of financial
    aid at Sandersville Technical College, students
    must maintain qualitative and quantitative
    academic progress.
  • QUALITATIVE ACADEMIC PROGRESS Students must
    maintain no less than a 2.0 cumulative Grade
    Point Average (GPA) which includes all credit
    courses appearing on their entire academic
    transcript, and

  • QUANTITATIVE ACADEMIC PROGRESS
  • Once all the hours attempted at Sandersville
    Technical College plus all transfer hours
    accepted by Sandersville Technical College, reach
    one and one-half of the total hours required to
    complete current certificate or diploma program
    in which a student is enrolled, he/she is no
    longer eligible for any type of state or federal
    financial aid.

    with your instructor after class.

Exemption Exams
  • You may receive credit for courses by passing an
    institutional exemption exam.
  • Complete the Application for Credit by Exemption
    Examination and obtain approval from your
    academic advisor before you register for your
    courses.

    Business Office and pay the required exemption
    examination fee for each course to be challenged.
    (The cost is 20 per course and must be paid
    prior to taking the test.)
  • Receive a Passing score on the exam. A grade
    of EX will be entered on the permanent record
    if the exemption exam is successfully completed.
    The credit hours for the exempted courses will
    not be computed in the grade point average.
