- The Calendar contains degree requirements,
program requirements brief course descriptions - The Timetable contains courses offered, meeting
days times, room numbers your professors. The
Timetable is available on our website at - ww.utm.utoronto.ca/timetable
- ROSI (the student registration website) - where
you register for your courses

Requirements
- In order to graduate, you must complete
- A set of degree requirements, leading to your UT
degree (like Honours Bachelor of Arts) - A set of program requirements, indicating your
area(s) of concentrated study (like English,
Management, Professional Writing)

- Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA)
- Honours Bachelor of Science (HBSc)
- Bachelor of Commerce(B.Com)
8Degree Requirements
- Honours Bachelor of Science (p.32)
- Complete pass at least 20.0 credits including
- No more than 6.0 introductory-level (100-level)
credits - At least 6.0 advanced-level (300/400-level)
credits - No more than 15.0 credits from the same dept.
- 1.0 credit from each of the 3 divisions
- At least 1 specialist or 2 majors or
- Have an overall GPA of at least 1.85

- This chart is the menu for choosing 1.0 credit
from each of the three divisions - Since your program will be in the Sciences you
will only need to complete your Social Science
and Humanities distribution requirements
10Grade (GPA) Requirements
- Each May August your performance will be
assessed if you have attempted 4.0 credits or
more - If your Annual (Sept.-Apr.) or summer (May-Aug.)
GPA grade point average is greater than 1.5
you will be In Good Standing - If your GPA is less than 1.50 you will be placed
on probation - During your probationary session you will have to
achieve a GPA of 1.7 or greater - High GPAs will be awarded with Principals
Deans awards and graduation honours, i.e.
distinction, high distinction

- Specialist - highly concentrated knowledge of a
subject - Major - concentrated knowledge of a subject
- Minor - general knowledge of a subject

14Choosing Enrolling in Your Program(s)
- Your program options are noted in the Calendar
- Some programs require very specific prerequisite
courses others offer options - You formally enroll in your program(s) at the end
of your first year of study (gt4.0 credits) - You can add/change/delete your programs
15 16Choosing your courses - How many courses to take?
- 6.0 credits is the maximum number of courses a
student could take from Sept. - May - The average is 5.0 credits per year (allows HBSc
in 4 years - Many students take 4.0 from Sept. - May and 1.0
in the Summer term (May-Aug)
17Full-time vs. Part-time course load
- 3.0 or more credits (from Sept. - May) is
considered full-time studies 0.5 - 2.5 credits
is considered part-time studies - 4.0 credits is required to maintain your status
in Residence - 3.0 credits (from Sept. - May) is required to for
OSAP eligibility. 1.5 credits must be maintained
in each term.

- Flip through textbook in the bookstore
- Explore the academic departments web site
19Getting started in class
- In first class meeting, instructor provides a
syllabus course details, noting - assignments, their values deadlines
- any class attendance policy
- instructions about missed assignments/tests
- required/recommended/optional books materials
- Set realistic goals for your performance, then
calculate your running grade as each assignment
is returned this will help you monitor progress
toward your goals

- Slash (/) means or
- P.I. means you can seek permission of the
instructor or department to take a course, if you
do not meet the course condition

requirement 1.0 credit from each of social
sciences, humanities (although this doesnt have
to be done in your 1st year) - If you would like to take additional courses you
could choose any other course(s) that you are
interested in taking - providing that you have
the prerequisite(s)

one of each L-lecture / P-practical / T-tutorial - MTWRF represent the days of the week, followed by
the time at which the section meets (or TBA -- to
be announced) - Classes actually start 10 minutes after the hour

Interpreting a course code
- BIO152H5F
- 3 letters - the abbreviation for the academic
area (example BIO for Biology) - 3 numbers - the first digit identifies depth or
intensity of the course -- 1intro (most
appropriate for new university students),
2intermediate, 3 4 advanced - 1 letter - indicating the courses credit value
or weight - H0.5 credit
- Y1.0 credit
- 1 number indicating the campus
- 5UTM
- Last letter indicating the courses duration
- FFirst term (Sept. - Dec.)
- SSecond term (Jan. - May)
- YBoth terms (Sept. - May)

Student Web Service - ROSI - The web address is

35What Students Can Do On ROSI
- Change and reactivate PIN
- View Personal Information
- Enrol in courses
- View timetable
- View Academic History
- View Financial Accounts

36Course Registration begins July 6
- 1st year students begin registering by web on
July 6 at 600 a.m. - Check your start time by logging on to ROSI a few
days before the first day of registration - If you do not have access to a computer you could
also use the computers in the UTM Library or the
Office of the Registrar.

38- Follow instructions carefully
- Enter student number and PIN to log in
- The first time you use web, your PIN is your
birth-date (YYMMDD)
39- You are required to change your PIN to a new
6-digit number - Remember the new PIN and use it in subsequent
uses of web
40- You will be allowed to proceed once you have
successfully changed your PIN
41- Click on the PERSONAL INFORMATION button to make
update your information - We will be using this information to contact you
42- Update your e-mail address
- We will be sending you important e-mails
throughout the year
43- Select the session you want to register in
- e.g. 2004-2005 Fall/Winter for September
registration
44- Select Course Enrolment to begin adding your
courses
45- Enter the Course Activity and Section Codes you
found in the Timetable - e.g. CCT101H5 S or ANT101H5 F
46- You must choose a Lecture Section
- e.g. L0101 or L0201
47- You are then prompted to confirm your selection
48- You will be prompted to select a PRACTICAL if the
course that you have selected requires one - e.g. PSY100Y5 requires a PRACTICAL - P0101
49- Click on on the ADD, CHANGE OR CANCEL COURSE
button to continue adding your courses
50- When you have added all of your courses click on
the PERSONAL TIMETABLE button to list all the
courses you added
51- Click on FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS to view your invoice
- Your balance will change as you add and delete
courses - NOTE Your account number is on the top right
hand corner e.g. TEST0000004141 - You can use
this to pay your fees by telephone or Internet
banking
52Trouble-shooting
- If you encounter connection errors, be patient
keep trying - If the system is down, retry periodically
- Enter your PIN carefully
- Respond within 1 minute to each prompt
- If you enter your PIN incorrectly three times in
a row, the system will lock you out -- contact
the Registrars Office during office hours if you
need to have it reset
53Adjust your schedule
- As your preferences change, change your schedule
- Changes may be made July 6-Aug. 15, Aug. 20
-Sept. 22 (classes will begin on Sept. 9) - Seating availability in course changes frequently
as students change their schedules - Remember that it is important to have alternative
courses in mind and not to panic when registering
54 55Arrange payment of fees
- Your fees are based on the number of registered
credits - Your fees must be paid at a bank by Aug. 31
- You may use your account number on the top right
hand corner of your on-line invoice (on ROSI) to
pay your fees via telephone or Internet banking - A hard copy of your invoice will be mailed to you
on starting July 23 - Aug 27 (weekly) - If you add courses, check ROSI for your updated
fees and use your on-line or originally mailed
invoice to make additional payments - If you applied for OSAP and you need to defer
your fees, you may request a fee deferral on-line
at www.utm.utoronto.ca/reg
56 57T-Cards
- You could get your T-card today if you have two
pieces of identification - Your T-card will give you access to the library,
fitness center, your personal e-mail, and many
other facilities at the University of Toronto - Dont forget to register for your library
privileges and set up your e-mail account once
you get your t-card!
