Upcoming Launch Schedule

• October 12 An Ariane 5 rocket to launch the
  DIRECTV 9S and Optus D1 communications
  satellites. as well as Japan's LDREX-2 satellite,
  into orbit from Guiana Space Center in Kourou,
  French Guiana. 456-556 p.m. EDT (2056-2156
  GMT).
• October 17 The European Space Agency's MetOp-A
  meteorological satellite to launch atop a
  Russian-built Soyuz rocket from Baikonur
  Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. 1228 p.m. EDT (1628 GMT)
• October 20-21 Several rocket demonstrations,
  launches and competitions to be held during the
  Wirefly X Prize Cup in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
• October 21 A privately-built suborbital
  SpaceLoft XL rocket developed by UP Aerospace to
  make its second launch - after a failed debut in
  September - from a New Mexico launch site. The
  rocket is expected to carry the ashes of Mercury
  astronaut Gordon Cooper and actor James Doohan,
  who played Scotty on television's Star Trek.
