  • Interconnectedness and interdependence of
    countries make up some of the common themes in
    explaining globalization

  • Economic a level of interdependence such that
    an economic or financial crisis in one region is
    felt by others
  • Political political events in some corner of
    the world is felt by others across the globe
  • Cultural the symbolic expression of cultures
    such as language, music, and images
  • Growing technology in communications have helped
    minimize the virtual time and geographic distance
    between countries

  • Modernization part of globalization but it
    mostly applied to the developed world
  • Internationalization refers to a phenomenon
    where in interconnectedness among countries
    exists while the countries remain distinct
    national units
  • Regionalization- though also referring to a
    phenomenon of interconnectedness, the countries
    involved are limited to those that exist in close
    proximity to one another e.g. EU

    between local and international politics is
    loosely defined politics everywhere is related
    with politics everywhere else
  • The hyperglobalists contend that global forces
    undermine the ability of governments to control
    their own economies and societies and result in
    the demise of the sovereign nation-state
  • The sceptics on the other hand maintain that
    states remain the principal forces shaping the
    world order
