3WHAT TO EXPECT
- Letter 60-90 days prior to the scheduled
inspection - INSURV Recorder (your primary POC on the INSURV
Board) identified - Messages 45-60 days prior to the inspection

4Ships INSURV Coordinator
- Develop inspection schedule of events (SOE) based
on INSURVINST 4730.2, App. A, forward to INSURV
recorder (minimum 1 week prior to inspection) - Track accomplishment of items in services request
message - Gather information required by Chapter 1 of
INSURVINST 4730.2 - Address ships concerns to INSURV board through
INSURV recorder
5Evolutions/Procedures
- S/F operates ships equipment.
- INSURV does not provide procedures S/F will use
only approved procedures during the conduct of
any inspection. (e.g. - SUBMEPP Maintenance
Standards, PMS, SSMs, Technical Manuals,
Operating Manuals, and SPAWAR Test Procedures) - Prepare to conduct as many evolutions as possible
in parallel and early. - May not desire to see the entire procedure
performed.
6Auxiliaries Preparations(Refer of INSURVINST
4730.2E, Chapter 2)
- Assemble information package IAW 2-1, indicating
location of documents not in package. - Evaluate Inspection Guide
- Download Auxiliary Equipment Inspection Guide
from web site - Review PMS MRCs called out for S/F performance
and prepare necessary tag outs - Coordinate evolution schedule with Ships INSURV
Coordinator - AX Inspector will request to meet with DCA, ALPO
following Inbrief on first day of inspection.
7Electrical Preparations (Refer to INSURVINST
4730.2E, Chapter 3)
- Assemble information package IAW 3-1, indicating
location of documents not in package. - Contact the EL Inspector as early as practical to
discuss preparations for the inspection. Key to
thermal imaging is permission to conduct
inspections in the vicinity of energized gear
(not-to-break-the-plane). - EL Inspector will provide you with a separate
detailed equipment listing for inspection/thermal
imaging (contact electrical inspector to get
advanced copy). - EL Inspector will request to meet with EA and
ELPO following Inbrief first day of inspection.

9Main Propulsion/Reactors Preparations (Refer to
INSURVINST 4730.2E, Chapter 4)
- Due to security concerns, ENG contact the MP/RX
Inspector as early as practical to discuss
preparations for the inspection. - Assemble info package IAW 4-1, indicating
location of documents if not included in package. - Coordinate and arrange to conduct demonstrations
and evolutions discussed in 4-5 and following. - IG provides additional details on demos.
- MP/RX Inspector will request to meet with ENG,
EDMC and MLPO following Inbrief on first day of
inspection.
10NAV/OPS
- Contact the NV/OP Inspector as early as practical
to discuss preparations for the inspection. - Some PMS is required to be completed ahead of the
inspection and results provided on arrival. Plan
early to get it done. Examples include - RF Gain Test, Shroud Test, EMI Surveys, Sail
Inspections. - NV/OP Inspector will request to meet with ANAV,
NODEA, Comm LPO following Inbrief on first day of
inspection.

- Assemble information package IAW 5-1, indicating
location of documents if not included in package. - Evaluate Inspection Guide
- Download Navigation/Operations Inspection Guide
from website. - Review procedures for the items listed to be
inspected. - Coordinate evolution schedule with Ships INSURV
Coordinator.
12Navigation/IC Preparations (Overview of
INSURVINST 4730.2E, Chapter 6)
- Assemble information package IAW 6-1, indicating
location of documents if not included in package.
- Evaluate Inspection Guide
- Download Navigation/Operations Inspection Guide
from website. - Review procedures for the items listed to be
inspected. - Coordinate evolution schedule with Ships INSURV
Coordinator. - Ensure safety tags and WAF for Sail Inspection
are prepared prior to RTP.
13Weapons/Deck Preparations (Overview of INSURVINST
4730.2E, Chapter 7)
- Assemble information package IAW 7-1, indicating
location of documents if not included in package
(i.e. Diver AEL in Dive Binder). - Identify any demos for which approved procedures
do not exist to INSURV POC. - Evaluate Inspection Guide
- Download applicable Weapons and Deck Inspection
Guides from website - Review PMS MRCs called out for SF performance
and prepare necessary tag outs - Coordinate evolution schedule with Ships INSURV
Coordinator - WP/DK/IS Inspector will request to meet with WEPS
or AWEPS, Div Os, WDEA, STLPO, FTLPO, TMLPO, 1st
LT, Deck LPO, and LAN Administrator following
Inbrief on first day of inspection.
14Damage Control Preparations(Overview of
INSURVINST 4730.2E, Chapter 8)
- Assemble information package IAW 8-1.
- Ensure materials listed in 8-2 are available.
- Download DC Inspection Guide from the website and
evaluate. - Ensure DCPO is off the watchbill for duration of
the inspection. - Senior Member will request to meet with DCPO
following Inbrief on first day of inspection.
15Habitability Preparations (Overview of INSURVINST
4730.2E, Chapter 9)
- Assemble information package IAW 9-1.
- Download Habitability Inspection Guide from the
website and evaluate. - Senior Member will request to meet with COB,
Ships Diving Officer as soon as practical
following Inbrief on first day of inspection.
16Supply Preparations (Overview of INSURVINST
4730.2E, Chapter 10)
- Download Supply Inspection Guide from the website
and evaluate. - Conduct PMS on Galley APC system and Grease
Interceptor Hood and related equipment. - Conduct PMS testing dual High-limit safety
thermostat operation on Galley Deep Fat Fryer. - Ensure that the temperature controls on the
Ovens, Griddles, Deep Fat Fryers, Electric Water
Heater, Dishwaters and Chill Boxes are
calibrated. - Have discrepancies corrected and be prepared to
be inspected beginning of day 1.

4730.2E, Chapter 11)
- Download Medical Inspection Guide from the
website and evaluate. - Test Bio-refeer high low temp and loss of power
alarm (SSBN/SSGN). - Ensure all equipment on AMAL is inspection ready.
- Document completion of Ship Pesticide Control
Management course, and maintain Deratization
Certification.
18Occupational Safety and Health Preparations
(Overview of INSURVINST 4730.2E, Chapter 12)
- Download OH Inspection Guide from the website and
evaluate. - Ensure required personnel training and NAVOSH
program evaluations are documented. For training
materials go to www.safetycenter.navy.mil. - Medical and Safety should review ships
Industrial Hygiene Surveys. - Inspect general work shop equipment for proper
machine guarding.
19Environmental Protection Preparations (Overview
of INSURVINST 4730.2E, Chapter 13)
- Download EP Inspection Guide from the website and
evaluate. - Ships Afloat Environmental Protection
Coordinator must have completed the AEPC course
and should be very knowledgeable of the INSURV
environmental checklist. - All hands are required to have completed
environmental awareness training. - Controllers and overboard discharge valves for
the oily waste/water pumps should be labeled
Discharge of oil prohibited.
20NAVOSH/ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION INSPECTOR
- The NEP Inspector will request to meet with the
MDR, Safety Officer, Supply Officer, SKLPO and
CSLPO following the Inbrief on the first day of
the inspection.
213M Coordinator
- Provide a CSMP download to INSURV board upon
arrival (coordinate with INSURV recorder for
proper format) - Upon conclusion of the inspection, a disk with
the inspection results will be provided to upload
into the ships 3M system

- Early liaison with the submarine board through
the INSURV Recorder has proven invaluable.
