Day of Birth
  • In 1451 Christopher was born in Genoa,
    Italy.

Day at the Shop
  • As a young boy, he worked in his fathers
    weaving shop at age 11.

Big Dreams
  • When Christopher was about 19 he had a chance
    to make his dreams come true. His dream was to
    sail.

A Dream to Sail
  • In 1477, Christopher moved to Portugal. He
    learned that King John II of Portugal wanted
    someone to sail to the Indies.

Maps For Sale
  • In 1477, Columbus and his brother were in
    Lisbon, Portugal. They sold maps to sailors.

The Wedding Bells
  • In 1479, Christopher got married to Dona Filipa
    in Lisbon. She died when her son was born.

  • In 1486, he asked the Spanish king and queen
    to help him. Queen Isabella finally agreed to
    give him ship honors.

  • In 1485, he went to Spain. He asked for money.
    He wanted money to buy ships.

    to America.

  • In September 1493, Columbus sailed 17 ships
    back to America. He found that the Indians
    killed all of his men from the first trip.

  • Between 1498-1500, on his 3rd voyage
    Christopher Columbus landed in South America. Not
    all the ships made it. Christopher lived.

Columbus Death
  • Christopher Columbus died in 1506 in Spain. He
    is remembered with a statue. People remember him
    for his sailing.
