  the training in a realistic setting
• Search scenarios formulated to closely follow
  procedures taught
• Some of the same procedures used earlier by the
  participants should be used during the field
  exercise

• Mentor handler and canine through out field
  exercises
• Provide suggestions for training techniques
• Oversee safety of the handler and canine
  throughout the exercise

Rubble Search

• Purpose To have the canine search team conduct
  search operations on a rubble pile

• Identify issues with
• Sure-footedness
• Hazard awareness
• Knowledge of search strategy and patterns
• Awareness of scenting conditions
• Ability to hide in confined spaces for a long
  time
• Ability to act as a spotter
• Accurately report working behavior

Levels Of Difficulty

• Runaway
• Runaway to alert box at the edge of the rubble
  pile
• Runaway
• Runaway to a hidden hole with the rubble pile
• Hidden victim pre-positioned
• Multiple, pre-positioned hidden victims

Handler Responsibility

• Inform the staff at the skill station what skill
  level canine and handler possess
• This is the time to communicate issues such as
  claustrophobia, or fear of heights

• Purpose To have the canine search team perform
  the tasks required during a search scenario
