Design Request
  • Our objective is to design a mechanism that will
    enable the rotor to break away from the gear pump
    shaft when the rotor seizes and then re-engage at
    the same timing.

Progress Choices
1. Continue to generate concepts until the team
can decide on a concept that will obviously be
successful. 2. Focus on analyzing the current
concepts in more detail.

Milestones for this semester
  • Concentrate on the concepts we have established
    rather than continue to focus on the generation
    of additional concepts
  • Perform detailed analysis of all current
    concepts.
  • Apply appropriate mathematical models to concepts
    to determine if the design will satisfy the
    customer specifications.

Analysis
  • An additional design consideration is that the
    drive sometimes rotates in reverse. Negative
    torque should not cause angular misalignment or
    disengagement.
  • Establish whether the current concepts can be
    fabricated to fit within the space limitations of
    the design.
