Maintenance Custodial Departments
This summer has been one of the busiest ever
for our Maintenance and Custodial Staffs. The
job has been compounded by the budget crisis in
the state and locally. A shortage of staff does
not mean the job of getting schools ready for
opening can be forgotten. Our Maintenance
and Custodial employees worked hard this summer
to ensure that our schools are as ready as
humanly possible when school starts. Just
a few of our biggest accomplishments are listed
on the following slides

• Helped to move and set up equipment, supplies,
  books, furniture and other items necessary to
  open Lake Norman High School
• Moved all excess furniture from 32 mobile
  classrooms either sent back or relocated
• Set up two mega mobile units for classes at
  two schools
• Major cleaning including striping, dusting,
  waxing, window cleaning bathroom scrubbing
  etc. at all schools
• Moving furniture in and out of rooms for cleaning
• Renovation of ADR for the Alternative School and
  future offices
• Moved all teachers belongings, books, supplies,
  equipment and other items necessary to open
  Third Creek Elementary

• Major renovation of a former media center into
  student service/classroom areas
• Concrete and bleacher work at high schools and
  middle schools
• Painting at all schools (more to be done after
  school starts)
• Two gym floor refinishing projects at middle and
  elementary schools
• Major HVAC upgrade projects at three schools
• Plumbing repair and upgrades including one major
  plumbing addition
• Normal repairs, upgrades and general maintenance
• Mounting and wiring of severalscoreboards
• Clean up and landscaping at numerous schools

• Carpet replacement at 6 schools (more to be done
  after school starts)
• Two major paving upgrades and paving and repairs
  to paving at other locations
• 8 major roofing projects
• Mulch and pine needle replacement
• Grading, clearing and gravel at several sites
• Several major fencing projects
• Relocation of furniture as well as purchase of
  some new replacement furniture
• Electrical wiring and upgrades including
  establishment of new computer labs
