In a nut shell

• Although today the word art usually refers to
  visual arts, the concept of what art is has
  continuously changed over centuries. Perhaps the
  most concise definition is its broadest.
• Art refers to all creative human endeavors.
• Art is simply a generic term for the creative
  impulse.

• So if art is so great and wonderful and we
  all experience creative endeavors at some time in
  our lives, why is it the first thing to go in our
  schools and the least to be under funded?
