Assessment of placementquality control from
within the profession
  • Our children deserve the best people to teach
them. Most PGDE students, having already
displayed competence in their first degree, are
older and wiser than their BEd counterparts and
now know that they want  to teach children. This
gives them the impetus to overcome the time and
content challenges of a one year degree course.

  • Our department are of the opinion that the one
year post graduate students bring something
slightly different to the profession. They have a
wide educational background and a fresh approach
to teaching. We are confident many of these
students will mature into excellent Physical
    Education teachers.

  • PGDE - in my opinion this course equips
students with the professional skills and
knowledge to enter the teaching profession.
University instils and demands of their students
high levels of commitment and professionalism.
This has been evident in the students I have
supervised, I have found them to be self
reflective and determined to develop their
approaches, strategies and confidence to deal
with the challenges of the learning environment.

Report of the Review Group on PE (2004)
  • The extension and expansion of PE curriculum
    will necessitate greater diversity, background
and range of experiences required by PE
    specialists.
  • For example, appropriately qualified and
experienced individuals from sport and exercise
science, coaching, health and physical activity
could, with appropriate ITT, become valuable
    members of the PE profession.
