Logging In

• Uses Windows name and password
• Authenticates via Windows 2000 server
• Uses Active Directory Plug-In on client
• Uses same name in other dialogs
• Beware of Full Name versus login
• Uses Same Home Folder
• Home on Mac U/ on Windows
• Go - Home from Finder

Home Folder

• Adds new subfolders to Home (U/)
• Desktop - OS X desktop folder
• Library - essential application OS files
• Documents, Movies, Music Pictures - default
  location for many OS X apps
• Public - allows for sharing of files still in
  the experimental phase for SVGS
• Sites - not used at SVGS, would be used for
  personal web pages

Rest of the Network

• Home is automatically mounted
• Storage must be mounted
• Go - Connect to Server from Finder
• Server Address smb//svgs_fileserver
• Enter credentials
• Select appropriate share (Storage)
• Could use shortcut
• smb//svgs_fileserver/Storage

Rest of the World (www)

• Safari will be the browser of choice
• iPrism is still the content filter
• Use Windows name and password
• Session Timeout time left in class
• Safari Preferences
• General
• Set home page
• Do NOT open safe files
• Autofill - turn off!
• Security - block pop ups
• Tabs - tabbed browsing

• Access applications
• Go - Applications from Finder
• Single click on Dock
• Add Items to Dock
• Drag from folder onto Dock
• Remove Items from Dock
• Drag from Dock onto Trash
• Dock Preferences
• Magnification, Hiding, Position, Animation
• Apple - Dock - Dock Preferences

• Set of Hot Key shortcuts
• F11 - Show Desktop

Trash

• Located in the Dock
• Yeah, I know its weird but get over it!
• Drag to Trash to delete
• Drag to Trash to eject CDs and DVDs
• Will say Eject
• Drag to Trash to unmount volumes
• Will say Disconnect
• Drag to Trash to burn CDs ???
• Will say Burn
• Empty Trash with a click and hold
• Ctrl - click or right-click will also work

Logout, Restart Shut Down

• Use the Apple menu
• Logout between classes
• Shut Down during last block or at night
• Restart if the system acts up
• Force Quit is OS Xs Task Manager
• Apple - Force Quit from Finder
• Option - Command - Escape
