Title: Rane Mongoose

1
Rane Mongoose Remote Audio Devices (RADs)
2
Whats Mongoose?
  • Mongoose is a Digital Router
  • Ports for 8 RADs (Remote Audio Device)
  • Each RAD can have up to 2 inputs and 2 outputs
  • 16 X 16 from RADs plus 16 x 16 from CobraNet
  • RADs Convert Audio to and from digital (AES3) at
    the wall
  • Allows routing from RAD to RAD, RAD to CobraNet
    and or CobraNet to CobraNet

3
Mongoose addresses these issues
  • Plays well with others
  • Works with any other CobraNet product
  • Enhances capabilities of your favorite DSP, yet
    does not replace it
  • Helps solve CobraNets bundle aggregation
    limitation inherent in some applications
  • Simplifies wiring to save time money
  • Solves last mile problem
  • Cost effective CobraNet audio network entry and
exit for a couple of audio channels

4
Mongoose Applications
  • Auditoriums, Churches, Hotel Ballrooms, Theaters,
    Stadiums, Arenas, Convention Centers, Campuses,
    medium to larger Bar/Restaurants/Clubs...
  • PROBLEM transmit receive a small number of
audio channels (2-6) to multiple scattered
locations within remote rooms to/from equipment
    rack(s)
  • SOLUTION Mongoose RADs

5
RAD Network - CAT 5 Details
6
Analog Method
7
Mongoose Digital Method
8
Tie Line Application
  • Mongoose can be used as a digital router
  • No CobraNet used when fewer than 8 RADs are
    needed

9
RAD to/from any CobraNet device(including
another Mongoose)
  • Need more than 8 RADs, use another Mongoose
  • Any CobraNet device DSP, loudspeaker, console

10
School Auditorium
  • School play? 4 mics at the stage can be sent to
the CobraNet DSP box (lower left) for mixing,
then sent back (on the same CobraNet/CAT 5
    cable!) to the powered loudspeakers.
  • The iPod and mic at the rear of the room could be
used for music announcements in the system.

11
Hotel
  • Here, 16 RADs ( therefore 2 Mongi) needed to
route audio throughout the system and to/from the
    CobraNet DSP(s)

12
Front Rear panels
  • 8 RAD port Indicators show audio sig/ol
    direction (in or out)
  • CobraNet Indicators for the audio network
  • Ethernet indicators for control network, plus
    Locate/Power
  • IEC Locate/Power Indicators CobraNet
    Status RAD Status
  • Physical Ethernet (control), CobraNet (audio)
    RAD Ports

13
RAD Models
  • RAD1 - Two Mic Inputs
  • RAD2 - One Mic Input, One Consumer Line-Level
Input (all 4 summed to mono)

14
RAD Models
  • RAD3 - Two Line-Level Inputs
  • RAD4 - Two Line-Level Outputs more models
    on the way

15
Back of RAD
  • 8P8C connector (aka RJ-45) easily accessible
  • At front of remote to permit lots of room for
cable bend radius within electrical box
  • Either Or Feature
  • Euroblocks on mic inputs permit paralleling 2 XLR
jacks into a single mic input stage (for
situations where only 1 mic is plugged in at a
    time)

16
Lots of RAD Options.
17
RAD Labels
  • RADs ship with a default label (as shown)
  • Rotate it 180 to blank the label when using
    custom-etched plates or panels
  • Custom labels supported
  • Naming channels in Tracker software
  • Print out labels from the Rane-generated pdf
    file
  • Cut, Insert/Replace the defaultlabel, Align
    Trim in place

18
Distance Limitations (CAT 5)
19
Distance Limitations (fiber)
