Title: 2004 Competitive Year End Review

1

Edmonton Springboard and Platform Diving Club
2003 2004 Competitive Year End Review
2
  •   In the past year over 40
  • competitive divers from our club
  • entered 438 events in over a
  • dozen provincial, national and
  • international diving competitions.

3
At these competitions our divers won over 156
medals with 55 of these medals being gold.
4
At the National Junior Diving Championships our
divers won 8 medals, two of them being
gold medal national champions.
5
  • At this meet our club placed third with the score
of 236 points which was more than double the
fourth place finisher. The previous year we had
only 137 points and the year before that in 2002,
    131 points

6
  • Our best placing for our senior divers was a 4th
place in the mens 3 meter event at both Senior
Nationals and Olympic Trials and a 6th place in
the womens 3 meter event at the Senior Nationals

7
The E age Group Category
  • The E Age Group divers are 9 years old and
    younger.
  • Of the more than 40 competitive divers, a quarter
of them were from the age group of 11 and under
including the 9 and under E group.

8
  • Paige Sawyer
  • Paige Sawyer had a 3rd place on the 1 meter at
the Summer Provincials and a silver medal on the
    3 meter.
  • Paige was continually and rapidly improving on
all of her skills throughout the year but
unfortunately before the start of this coming
year she had to move to Ottawa where she is
currently training with the Nepean, Ottawa diving
team. We wish her the best of luck.
  • ADAM

9
  • Keanna Battistoni
  • Keanna Battistoni dove in the E age group and had
a second place, silver on the 1 meter in the
Winter Provincials and another silver at the
    Summer Provincials.
  • Keanna made some amazing changes last year by
going from A group to I group and being a
competitor in 2 of the Alberta Provincial meets.
This year looks like it could be a great year for
her in her first year of D.
  • ADAM

10
  • Becky Deacon
  • Becky Deacon won a gold medal on the 1 meter and
3 meter in both the Winter and Summer Provincials
in the E age group. Becky also dove in the D
category at the Summer Provincials where she
placed 7th on the 1 meter with 142.70 and 5th on
    3 meter with 153.80.
  • Becky had a great season in the E category,
winning gold medals at both the winter and summer
provincial championships. Becky started to travel
in April at the Saskatoon Western Canadians and
the Summer Provincials in Calgary. She also dove
in the D category with a basic list and did
them well. Becky is a strong diver with great
form and with her harder dives she will be
learning in 2005 she should have an even better
    season.
  • STEVE

11
The D age Group Category
  • This group consists of divers who are 11 and
    younger.

12
  • Teala Peden
  • Our newest diver in the competitive group was
Teala Peden who dove both 1 meter and 3 meter in
    the Alberta Summer Provincial Diving
Championships in Calgary and placed 19th on the 1
meter with a score of 137.70, and she was also
19th on the 3 meter with 115.70. Teala competes
    in the D age group
  • Teala had an amazing year last year. Teala not
only moved up from A group to I group but she
also learned a full list on 1 meter and the 3
meter board and competed both of them at the
Calgary, Summer Provincials. Remarkable for being
    such a new diver.
  • ADAM

13
  • Keanna Kutchinski
  • Another one of our newer divers, Keanna
Kutchinski also diving in D, competed on the 1
meter in our Winter Provincials in Edmonton and
    placed 5th with a score of 167.30.
  • Keanna had a good season on the 1 meter board
making her national standard in the March
Provincials in Edmonton. She was working on her 3
meter list last year but was having some
difficulties with one dive and missed the summer
Provincials in Calgary. With one more year in the
D category, Keanna should have a good season on
all boards in 2005, and compete in the National
    Championships
  • STEVE

14
  • Mackenzie Albert
  • Also competing at the Alberta winter provincial
championships was Mackenzie Albert in the same
age group. Mackenzie had a 9th place with a score
    of 152.55.
  • Mackenzie moved into my group mid way through
last season. When she came into my group we
started off with nothing but basics which has
helped her gain confidence. This year she has
done many new dives and there will be many to
come and I feel that she is ready to step up to
new challenges and have a successful year.
  • ADAM

15
  • Brent Sagert
  • Brent Sagert had his first competition at the
provincial level with our club, placing 5th at
the Winter Provincials with a score of 128.00.
  • Brent loves to dive and has been working on
being more tight, and needs more experience in
competitions. When he has done enough
repetitions of his list his scores will improve
    this year.
  • MARK

16
  • Igor Tomasevic
  • At the Alberta Winter provincials Igor placed 3rd
in Alberta and 1st on 3 meter tying with Denzil
with a score of 146.40. Both boys won the gold
    medal.
  • Igor then traveled to the Western Canadian
    Championships where he placed 4th, 4th and a 3rd
on the 1 meter, 3 meter and platform events
    respectively
  • At the Summer Provincials, Igor had a 2nd place
on the 3 meter with 180.75, and a 1st place on
    the platform with 125.25.
  • Igor had a great year starting in Edmonton. Igor
traveled to Saskatoon and Calgary and had a great
meet in May where he made his national standard
on 3 meter and set a provincial record on tower.
With one more year in the D category, Igor should
have a strong season in 2005.
  • STEVE

17
  • Denzil Pullock
  • In Denzils first meet of the year he competed on
the 1 meter and the 3 meter boards where he
placed first on the one meter and tied for 1st
with Igor on the 3 meter. He then set the
provincial record for the platform event in the D
    age group.
  • Denzil then competed in the Victoria Speedo Sting
meet, placing 8th on 1 meter and 6th on 3 meter.
  • He then went to the Western Canadian Diving
Championships, where he placed 2nd on all 3
    boards.
  • At the Alberta Summer Provincials Denzil placed
first in Alberta on both springboards with 187.20
on the 1 meter and 186.40 on the 3 meter. He had
an amazing meet since he qualified for the
National Age Group Championship on both boards
  • Denzil qualified to go onto the Age Group
National Diving Championships where he was a
finalist on both the 1 meter and the 3 meter. He
    was 11th on 1 meter with 171.40 and 12th on 3
    meter with 166.25.

18
  • Denzil had a great year last year. He not only
qualified for nationals for the first time but by
doing so he also qualified for the Alberta
Provincial Team that will be traveling to Cuba in
    2005.
  • Because of his lack of fear and willingness to
learn new dives he remarkably made a 57
improvement in his 1 meter scores and a 63
improvement on his 3 meter score from the start
of the year to the end. He then went on to
compete at his first Nationals that were held in
    Victoria, BC.
  • We are really looking forward to seeing what
Denzil has to come for 2005.
  • ADAM

19
  • Christine Hiron
  • Christine Hiron moved up from E to D this
year and competed at the Polar Bear Classic in
Winnipeg and had a 12th, 13th and 9th place on
the 1 meter, 3 meter and 5 meter platform
    respectively.
  • Christine competed in the Victoria Speedo Sting
meet where she had a 20th, 18th and 14th placing
on the 1 meter, 3 meter and 5 meter.
  • She then competed in our Edmonton Winter
Provincial Championships where she had a 7th, 5th
    and 5th placing.
  • Then she went to the Saskatoon Western Canadians
and had a bronze medal on both the 1 meter and 3
meter with scores of 184.45 and 182.35 and placed
    4th on the platform.
  • At the Summer Provincials in Calgary she had a
    6th, 4th and 5th respectively. Her 4th place
scored her 183.65 on the 3 meter and qualified
her to go to the Age Group Nationals.
  • At the Age Group Nationals, Christine placed 17th
    with a score of 170.70.

20
  • Christine had a slow start to the season but in
April, she went to the Saskatoon Western
Canadians and had a bronze medal on both the 1
    meter and 3 meter.
  • Then her diving started to improve and at the
Summer Provincials in Calgary, she qualified on
the 3 meter to go to the Age Group Nationals, and
kept improving all the way to the Age Group
    Nationals.
  • With one more year in the D category, Christine
should have a great season in 2005.
  • STEVE

21
  • Jade Linaker
  • Jade Linaker started off her season in December
03 going to the CAMO Invitational in Montreal
where she placed 24th, 20th, and 22nd against
divers from all over the world.
  • Jade went on to the Orlando Invitational in
Florida, an international competition, and had
two gold medals on 1 meter and 3 meter, and a 4th
place on the platform. She had the score of
182.65 on the 1 meter, 184.30 on 3 meter and
    183.35 on the platform.
  • She then went on to the Speedo Sting in Victoria
and had a 2nd place on the 1 meter, 1st place on
the 3 meter with scores of 223.65 and 237.60 and
a bronze medal on the platform with a score of
    161.65.
  • Jade then came back in March to our Alberta
Provincial Championship where she won all three
boards with scores of 242.90, 234.20 and 179.45
on the 1 meter, 3 meter and 5 meter respectively.
  • Jade went to the Summer Provincials in Calgary
and again came 1st on all three boards with
    236.40, 247.60 and 180.10 on the 1 meter, 3 meter
    and 5 meter.
  • Jade competed at the Age Group Nationals in
Victoria and won two bronze medals on the
springboards and a 6th place on the platform.
Her scores were 218.75 on the 1 meter, 255.24 on
the 3 meter and 187.75 on the platform.

22
  • Jade is a pleasure to coach. She arrives at the
pool with one thing in mind and that is She is
going to give it 100. She is a very hard worker
and results from her meets proved that hard work
    does pay off.
  • In 2004, Jade placed 1st on at least one board at
each of her meets except the National
Championships. Jade did however place in the top
three at Nationals bringing home two bronze
    medals.
  • Jade now holds two Provincial Records to her name
which she set at the Provincial Championships.
  • Jade is one of the strongest Group D divers this
country has seen in a while which will help make
her one of the favorites for the Junior team that
will compete at the 2005 Junior Pan Am
Championships in Cuba next summer. Jades
strongest event is the 1 meter board, but as we
saw at Nationals it was Jades weakest event and
yet she still earned a bronze medal on an off
    day!
  • I expect Jade will have another strong year this
year and it wont be long before she will be
    representing Canada at upcoming International
    championships.
  • DAVID

23
  • Angelina Kroupko
  • Angelina Kroupkos first meet of the year was the
Polar Bear Classic in Winnipeg and she had a
silver medal, bronze medal and a 7th place on
the platform with 215.25 on the 1 meter, 196.00
on the 3 meter and 129.40 on the platform.
  • Angelina then competed in the Sting competition,
    she had a 6th place on 1 meter with 174.70, a
bronze medal on 3 meter with 199.25 and was 12th
    on 5 meter with 123.45.
  • Angelina competed in our Winter Provincials with
    a 2nd place on 1 meter, a 4th place on 3 meter
and a bronze medal on platform. Her scores were
    209.70, 170.55 and 149.30.
  • At the Summer Provincials in Calgary, Angelina
received two silvers and a bronze with 212.70 on
    1 meter, 206.00 on 3 meter and 161.05 on the 5
    meter.
  • Angelina then went on to the Age Group National
Diving Championships where she became the
National Champion on the 1 meter with a score of
239.85. On 3 meter she was 15th, with 184.35 and
    on platform 14th with 140.95.

24
  • Angelina is our clubs newest National Champion!
Congratulations Angelina. Her 1 meter score at
Nationals was one of the Top 5 scores ever at
Nationals for that event and this was at her very
    first Nationals!
  • Angelina is one of the toughest divers, I have
ever coached. She has more than enough strength
to complete her dives. Sometimes too much!
Angelina has a very distinct diving style that
judges love to see. This style will help her when
she moves up to challenge for medals next year in
Group C. Angelina besides her great flexibility
and toe point is one of the fastest spinners for
her age which will allow her to perform one of
the hardest lists of dives in her age category.
  • Angelina earned at least one medal in each of her
competitions that she competed at in 2004!
  • Angelina surprised a lot of people at Nationals
and one coach from Calgary mentioned how her
    performance was determined, deliberate and
HOT!!!  Fire in the eyes you might say.
Surprised a few people I would think.
  • I expect Angelina to surprise even more people
this year when she adds a couple more dives to
    her list!
  • DAVID

25
The C age Group Category
  • The C age group, consists of divers who are 12
or 13 and who havent had their 14th birthday
before December 31st of the year of competition.

26
  • Deanna Dumur
  • Deanna Dumur competed in the 1 meter C girls
event at the Alberta Winter Provincials she was
12th making finals and had 157.20 points.
  • At the Alberta Summer Provincials, Deanna placed
    9th on 1 meter with 183.00 and 9th on 3 meter
    with 231.20.
  • Deanna had a good start to the season but
leveled off in the winter. She started to improve
again in April and in May competed at the Alberta
Summer Provincials where Deanna placed 9th on 1
meter with 183.00 and 9th on 3 meter with 231.20.
With one more year in the C category, Deanna
should have a good season in 2005.
  • STEVE

27
  • Brittany Weigel
  • Brittany Weigels first competition of the year
was the CAMO Montreal International where she
placed 19th on 1 meter and 22nd on 3 meter and
    20th on the platform.
  • Brittanys next competition was in Florida at the
Orlando International where she was 5th on 1
meter, 3rd on 3 meter and 3rd on platform, with
    the scores of 179.85, 196.70 and 186.25
    respectively.
  • Brittany competed at the Speedo Sting in
Victoria where she had a 7th place on 1 meter
    with 271.85, 9th on 3 meter with 267.25 and 8th
    on platform with 192.85.
  • At our Winter Provincials in Edmonton, Brittany
was the bronze medal winner in Alberta on the 1
meter with 263.00, she was 8th on 3 meter with
242.20 and on platform she was 5th with 211.05.
  • In Saskatoon at the Western Canadian
Championships, Brittany was the silver medal
winner on all three boards with 272.70 on 1
meter, 295.80 on 3 meter and 219.90 on platform.
  • At the Alberta Summer Provincials in Calgary,
    Brittany had a 3rd place, 3rd place and a 2nd
place with 277.15 on the 1 meter, 318.15 on the 3
    meter and 233.35 on platform.
  • At the Age Group Nationals in Victoria, Brittany
was an 11th place finalist on 1 meter with
    253.45, 17th on 3 meter with 167.95 and 16th on
    the platform with 133.40.

28
  • Brittany had a very successful first year of
group C. She qualified to compete on all three
boards at the National Championships even with
    the new stricter qualification standards.
Brittany really turned it on towards the end of
the year when she placed in the medals on all
three boards at the Summer Provincials. However
she did not perform quite as well at Nationals.
Brittany did qualify for the final on the 1 meter
event but struggled a little in the other two
    events.
  • Brittany will be at the top of her age category
in the 2005 season and I believe this will be the
year that she breaks out for a memorable year.
Brittany is a very powerful and compact diver who
already has the big dives on 3 meter and with
another year of perfecting those dives, I know
she will be in the mix when the hardware is
    handed out at Nationals.
  • On a personal note Brittany is a great addition
to the group as she always has a smile on her
face and she is also very supportive towards her
teammates. She is also there for the
congratulatory hugs (especially the boys, right
    Brit!).
  • DAVID

29
  • Lindsey Madsen
  • Lindsey Madsen competed in the C age group at
the CAMO International meet in December and was
    25th on 1 meter, 15th on 3 meter and 17th on
    platform.
  • Lindsey competed in the Orlando Invitational and
was 7th on 1 meter and won the gold medal on the
3 meter with her excellent rips and was 5th on
    the platform.
  • Her scores were 178.60, 226.05 and 180.75
    respectively.
  • Lindsey went on to the Sting in Victoria and was
    10th on the 1 meter with 250.70, 4th on the 3
meter with 297.55 and 6th on platform with
    204.30.
  • Lindsey then competed at our Provincials in
Edmonton in March where she placed 5th on 1 meter
with 260.45, 3rd in Alberta on 3 meter with
293.10 and she won the Alberta championship on
    platform with 223.80.
  • In the Summer Provincials in Calgary, Lindsey had
the silver medal on 1 meter with 283.35, the gold
medal on the 3 meter with 336.40 and a bronze
    medal on platform with 209.10.
  • At the Age Group Nationals she was 15th on 1
meter with 162.15, 8th on 3 meter with 294.25 and
8th on the platform with 225.45.

30
  • Lindsey is a fierce competitor. You wouldnt know
that from looking at her but she has that tiger
inside of her. Miss Consistency is what I would
call her. With her awesome rip entry that all
divers are jealous of, she has shown that she
will always be a contender. What she lacks in
power she definitely makes up for with her
    lineups.
  • She has already scored over the magical 200.00
points on her compulsory dives on 3 meter and
that is in Group C! That is tough test for most
    senior divers to perform.
  • I expect Lindsey will be our next representative
for the Rip Contest at the 2005 Junior
Nationals. I know that she wont disappoint when
she goes in with her winning dive next summer!
  • Lindsey also was a member of the Alberta
Provincial Team that traveled to Orlando Florida.
She already has won an International event when
she took home the gold medal on the 3 meter
board. She also had a great finish to the year,
placing 8th on both the 3 meter and tower events
at last summers Junior Nationals. Lindsey showed
that the CAMO girls are within striking
    distance for the upcoming year.
  • DAVID

31
  • Tanis Chomyn
  • Tanis Chomyn in the same age group, C girls,
had a 16th place finish on 1 meter at the CAMO
International, 10th on 3 meter and 25th on the
    platform.
  • Tanis then competed in Victoria at the Sting
meet. She was 6th on 1 meter with 272.40, 8th on
3 meter with 272.35 and 5th on platform with
    218.70.
  • At our Winter Provincials in Edmonton, Tanis was
the Alberta silver medalist with 269.20 on 1
meter, she won the Alberta championship on 3
meter with 315.30 and had a bronze medal on the
    platform with 219.35.
  • Tanis competed in Calgary at the Alberta Summer
Provincial Championships, she had a 5th on 1
meter with 268.90, 5th on 3 meter with 303.50 and
    won the platform with 257.30.
  • At the Age Group Nationals, Tanis came 7th on 1
    meter with 280.75, 12th on 3 meter with 274.00
and 6th on platform with 230.40.

32
  • Tanis had an outstanding year. Taniss dynamic
diving style with her long body lines and great
toe point will always standout in the judges
    eye.
  • Tanis who has only really been diving full time
for less than 1 ½ years, has already accomplished
some amazing things. She broke a 12 year old
provincial record last May at the Summer
Provincials in the tower event. Tanis was 1 of
only 7 group C girls who made all 3 finals at the
Junior Nationals showing that she is a very
versatile athlete. Tanis best showing was
placing in the top 6 in the platform event. Being
a former gymnast, Tanis showed that there is more
to a dive than just the entry as she spins
extremely fast and finishes dives higher up in
the air than most others. Tanis will be adding a
couple of new dives to her list that will help
her challenge the top six again even though she
is moving up an age group.
  • Tanis had a great Winter Provincial Championships
were she was selected to the Provincial Team
based on her Gold medal performance on the 3
meter board. She will be traveling to Cuba next
March for a training camp and competition against
    a tough Cuban team.
  • Tanis always has a way of making her teammates
laugh. She has shown that there is more than the
love of a sport to keep you coming to the pool
and that is having fun with your diving friends
is just as important. Now if I can only get her
to work as hard at her diving as she does making
other people laugh we will all be happy!
  • DAVID

33
  • Leah Suley
  • Leah Suleys first meet of the year was the Polar
Bear meet in Winnipeg where she had a bronze
medal on 1 meter with 254.65, 4th place on 3
meter with 289.45 and she dove open 1 meter and
    was 25th with 165.50.
  • Leah went to Florida for the Orlando
International and on 1 meter she came 1st with
218.35 and was 2nd on 3 meter with 206.95. At
the Sting in Victoria, Leah had a bronze medal on
the 1 meter with 284.85 and 6th on 3 meter with
    286.40.
  • In our Winter Provincials, Leah was the
provincial champion on 1 meter with 269.40, she
was the runner up with the silver medal on 3
meter with 313.65 and another silver medal on the
    platform with 220.15.
  • At the Summer Provincials, Leah won the 1 meter
with 305.70, was 2nd on 3 meter with 334.70 and
4th on the platform with 205.70.
  • At the Age Group Nationals, on 1 meter, Leah was
    5th with 294.55, 4th on 3 meter with 323.55 and
10th on the platform with 216.90.

34
  • Leah had a great year! I can only say a little
since I wasnt her personal coach last year. I
would like to say that I had the opportunity to
coach Leah in Orlando at the All Star
Invitational and she showed me that she can
compete with the best. She placed 1st on 1 meter
and 2nd on 3 meter. A month later she again made
the Provincial Team based on her gold and two
    silver medal performances.
  • Leah can say that she has competed against all
the top girls in Canada her age and has beaten
all but two at some point during the 2004 year!
That is quite amazing considering the quality and
depth of the CAMO diving club.
  • Leah narrowly missed getting her first medal at
the Junior Nationals when she placed 4th on the 3
meter and 5th on the 1 meter, missing a medal by
about 10 points on both boards.
  • Looking ahead, Leah moves into a group of hard
working girls who will help push and challenge
her so that she can achieve even better things
    during the 2005 season.

35
  • We had three boys competing in the
  • C age group last year,
  • Julien Cousineau, Ritchie Brostrom and Cody Yano.

36
  • Julien Cousineau
  • Juliens first competition of the year was the
Polar Bear in Winnipeg in January. He had a 3rd
place on the 1 meter, 3rd place on 3 meter and a
5th place on the platform. His score on 1 meter
was 248.50, on 3 meter 267.40 and on the
    platform, 183.20.
  • Julien also attended the competition in Victoria,
the Sting, where he had a 4th place on 1 meter
    with 274.80, 7th on 3 meter with 289.50 and 7th
    place on platform with 215.65.
  • In our Winter Provincials, Julien had a 4th place
on 1 meter with 273.65, another 4th on the 3
meter with 274.65 and went 201.20 for the bronze
medal in the Boys C Platform. Julien competed
in the open events and was 7th on 1 meter with
213.30 and 7th on the 3 meter with 374.40 and won
the silver medal on platform with 355.35 which
helped him qualify to go to the Canada Games
    training camp.
  • In Saskatoon at the Western Canadian
Championships in April, he had a 3rd place on the
1 meter with 271.35, 4th place on 3 meter with
    282.35 and a 2nd place on platform with 215.80.
  • In our Summer Provincials in Calgary, Julien had
    a 4th place on 1 meter with 266.05, a bronze
medal on the 3 meter with 295.65 and placed 2nd
on platform with 223.10. Julien also dove in the
open 1 meter event and was 7th with 181.40.
  • At the Age Group Nationals, Julien had a 16th
place on 1 meter with 158.20, 25th on 3 meter
with 142.85 and 20th on the platform with 124.70.

37
  • Julien improved gradually through the competitive
season. In February at the Sting, he had a 4th
place on 1 meter and dove well on 3 meter and
platform only missing one dive on each board.
  • At our Winter Provincials, he competed in the
open event on platform with a score of 355.35,
which helped him qualify to go to the Canada
Games training camp in Mission Viejo, California.
  • Julien dove well thru to July but ran out of
steam just before the Age Group Nationals.
  • 2005 will be a new challenge for Julien in the B
category, with more dives, harder dives and
diving in the reverse order, doing his hard dives
first. We will be using new strategies this year
    to build his endurance.
  • STEVE

38
  • Ritchie Brostrom
  • Ritchie Brostroms first competition of the year
was in Montreal in December at the CAMO
Invitational. He was 25th on the 1 meter with
    168.25 and 20th on 3 meter with 178.25 and 19th
    on the platform with 176.10.
  • Ritchie competed in Orlando, Florida for the
Invitational, he was 10th on 1 meter with 182.25,
9th on the 3 meter with 184.35 and 7th on the
platform with 183.90. Ritchie competed at the
Sting in Victoria where he was 8th on 1 meter
    with 243.90, 5th on 3 meter with 300.20 and 8th
    on the platform with 193.95.
  • Back at our Provincial Championships, Ritchie had
    a 2nd place on the 1 meter with 299.65, and had a
bronze medal on the 3 meter with 293.20 and he
won the platform event with 250.50. This was an
amazing list which broke the provincial record.
  • In Saskatoon, Ritchie was 2nd on the 1 meter with
    264.75, 3rd on 3 meter with 307.20 and 3rd on
    platform with 214.35.
  • At the Summer Provincials in Calgary, Ritchie was
    3rd on 1 meter with 280.05, 4th on 3 meter with
    278.90 and 3rd on platform with 221.55.
  • At Age Group Nationals, Ritchie was 10th on 1
    meter with 266.60, 18th on 3 meter with 171.90
and 18th on the platform with 139.05. Ritchie did
some amazing dives this year especially on
platform. Ritchie is still in the same age group
this coming year and we expect him to be doing
even better as his list becomes more consistent.

39
  • Cody Yano
  • Cody Yanos first competition of the season was

    with 212.30, 14th on 3 meter with 196.30 and 16th
    on the platform with 183.90.
  • Cody then went to Orlando and had a bronze medal
on the 1 meter with 221.15, 6th place on the 3
meter with 213.45, he missed the platform event
    because of the flu.
  • In Victoria at the Sting, Cody had a 3rd place on
1 meter with 284.90, 4th place on the 3 meter
with 315.15 and 4th on platform with 228.30.
  • At the Winter Provincials in Edmonton, Cody
placed 3rd on the 1 meter with 296.50, 2nd on the
3 meter with 319.05 and 2nd on the platform with
241.50. Cody also dove in the open event placed

medal on the 3 meter with 339.60. Cody did not
compete platform over the past few months because
    of a back problem.
  • At the National Age Group Championships, Cody was
7th on the 1 meter with 274.75, on 3 meter he was
    6th with 309.20.
  • With having Codys back healed up this coming
year, we expect him to be doing even bigger and
    better things.
  • Cody has amazing power for his age and has a full
senior list on both springboards. This year he
will learn a senior platform list as well.

41
The B age Group Category
  • This group consists of divers who are 14 and 15
    years old.
  • Amongst our competitive divers this year, seven
of them were in the B category, with six girls
    and one boy.

42
  • Genevieve Laurent
  • Genevieve Laurent entered the 1 meter even at the
Alberta Winter Provincials and was a finalist,
placing12th place with a score of 222.95. She
could not compete for the rest of the year
because she had to have an operation on her foot.
However she is back this year, and we expect big
    things from Genevieve.
  • Last year Genevieve was continually improving
and getting a full list off on 1 meter and was
working towards a list on 3 meter but an
unfortunate injury stopped her hopes of achieving
this goal. But this year she is ready to pick up
    from where she left off.
  • ADAM

43
  • Eden Gresiuk
  • Eden Gresiuks first competition of the year was

    platform with 208.35.
  • At the Alberta Summer Provincials in Calgary,
    Eden was 9th on 1 meter with 333.10 and 11th on 3
meter with 331.45, Eden also competed on the 3

  • At the Age Group Nationals she competed on 1
meter and placed 26th with a score of 143.49 and
    25th on the 3 meter with 153.03.

44
  • Eden is one of 4 new additions to my group this
year. I really didnt coach her at all last year
but as far as this year goes she is extremely
motivated to become a better diver.
  • She has taken a new look at things and feels it
is time to start doing some of those bigger
    dives.
  • Eden has a lot of talent and I am looking forward
to a very successful year and another qualifier
    for the Nationals.
  • ADAM

45

    was 13th with 163.10.
  • In Calgary at the Summer Provincials, Cindy was
    6th on 1 meter with 347.75, 8th on 3 meter with
355.75, she dove in the Open events and was 22nd
on 1 meter with 162.75 and 20th on 3 meter with
    348.30.
  • At the National Championships she was 18th on 1
meter with 175.59 and 24th on 3 meter with 164.31.

46
  • Cindy is another new addition to my group this
year and so far so good. I can see she is a hard
worker and strives very hard to improve on her
    diving skills.
  • Last year she worked very hard and it all paid
off with her qualifying to go to the nationals. I
am hoping for the same results from her this year
even though it will be her first year in the A
    Age Group.

  • Anne Seath
  • Anne Seaths first competition of the year was
the Polar Bear Classic and she was 11th on 1

dove 3 meter Open where she placed 43rd with
    134.20.
  • At our Winter Provincials in Edmonton, Anne was
    7th on 1 meter with 313.45, 9th on 3 meter with
267.65 and 6th on the platform with 250.80. She
dove Open 1 meter and placed 28th with 133.75 and
    Open 3 meter placing 23rd with 308.30.
  • Anne competed in Saskatoon and came 8th on the 1
    meter with 298.90, 6th on 3 meter with 331.95,
2nd on the platform with 245.25. In Open 1 meter

platform and had a 2nd place in Alberta, a silver
    medal, with 255.30.
  • She then went on to the National Age Group
Championships where she was qualified to dive
platform in the B event, she was 8th with an
8.5 on her back 2½ somersault which thrilled the
crowd, her total score was 269.88.

48
  • Annes determination finally paid off last year.
She had one of those breakout meets that builds
confidence. Anne qualified just for 1 event for
the Junior Nationals (platform), but she made it
a memorable one. She had all her teammates on
their feet when she nailed a difficult Back 2 ½
ss from the 7.5 meter tower. She received 8s and
8 ½s enabling her to make her first National
final and vaulted her into an 8th place final
    finish.
  • Anne too will be moving into the same group with
Leah and I expect to see Anne continue where she
left off, showing the rest of Canada that she
will not only be challenging for the top spots on
tower but showing that she performs just as well
    on the springboards.

369.55 on 1 meter and 382.00 on 3 meter. She
placed 4th on the platform with 227.50.

50
  • Katie had an excellent meet in Calgary at the
Summer Provincials where she won the gold medal
on the 1 meter with 395.45 and a silver medal on
the 3 meter with 385.60. She also dove in the
open events and was 18th on 1 meter with 179.20
    and 13th on 3 meter with 399.75.
  • Katie was not able to attend the Age Group
National Championships because of an injury but
we are looking forward to seeing her do great
things this upcoming year as she is now healing
    up.
  • Her improving fundamentals will allow her to use
her natural strength to do the big dives this
    year.
  • HERB

51
  • Aniesa Debaji
  • Aniesa Debajis first competition of the year was
the CAMO Invitational where she was 14th on 1
meter with 180.55 and 12th on 3 meter with
    282.00.
  • Aniesa went to the Polar Bear Classic and was 4th
on 1 meter with 337.90, 3rd on 3 meter with
377.20, 8th on platform with 242.95 and dove open
    1 meter and was 14th with 180.25.
  • Aniesa went to the Sting in Victoria, where she
    had a 6th place on 1 meter with 354.75, 6th on 3
meter with 378.95 and 11th on the platform with

    and was 20th with 197.15.
  • In our Alberta Provincials in Edmonton, Aniesa
won the silver medal on 1 meter with 332.90, and
also won the silver medal on the 3 meter with
390.75, she also had a 4th place with a score of
265.90 on the platform. Aniesa dove in the 1
meter and 3 meter open, where she was 16th with
    178.60 on 1 meter and 10th with 371.30 on the 3
    meter.
  • In the Summer Provincials in Calgary, Aniesa was
    4th on 1 meter with 366.00 and 1st on 3 meter
    with 409.40.
  • At the Age Group Nationals, Aniesa was 9th on 1
meter with 358.05, 4th on 3 meter with 410.28 and
11th on the platform with 262.47.

52
  • Aniesa surprised a lot of people in her first
year of Group B and in only her second year of
diving! She started off the year at the CAMO
International event, competing against some of
the best 14 and 15 year old divers in the world.
Not only did she make the finals on the 3 meter
she was the 2nd best Canadian diver beating out 3
or 4 CAMO divers which we all know has the
strongest junior program in the country. She
almost duplicated that feat when she placed 4th
at the Junior Nationals again on 3 meter. Aniesa
was in medal contention up until the last couple
    of dives.
  • Aniesa has already qualified to compete at the
Senior Nationals in Quebec City next March but
instead will stay home and focus on improving her
lineups so that she can improve on her 4th place
    finish from last year.
  • Aniesa thrives on competitions. She loves to
perform and as usual I am proven wrong at meets
as she always pulls out her best dives under
pressure. I am not sure how she does it but as
long as she knows how thats all that matters.
She is a true competitor. She can step up to the
plate and hit a home run when she needs to and it
is that type of determination that will develop
her into an force to watch out for next year as
she will be trying to again battle it out with
the CAMO divers for some medals.

53
  • Brook Nash
  • Brook Nashs first competition of the year was
the Florida International competition in Orlando.
He had a 12th place on the 1 meter with 202.65
and 10th place on 3 meter with 226.10.
  • He then competed in the Sting where he had a 12th
place on 1 meter with 244.65 and a 10th place on
    3 meter with 301.60.
  • At our Winter Provincials in Edmonton, Brook was
4th on 1 meter with 310.45 and won the bronze
medal on 3 meter with 320.30.
  • At our Summer Provincials in Calgary, Brook won
the silver medal on 1 meter with 357.20 and also
won the silver medal on 3 meter with 380.95.
  • Brook had an injury which prevented him from
competing at the Age Group National
    Championships.
  • Brook last year grew stronger and became a more
consistent diver as the year progressed. He
learned many new dives such as the reverse 2.5
tuck and a Back 2.5 pike, which is not an easy
dive for someone of his age. He unfortunately was
injured just before the Junior Nationals and was
    unable to compete.
  • ADAM

54
The A age Group Category
  • In the A category, which is the 16, 17 and 18
year olds, we had six divers competing in A
this year with our club. Four girls and two
    boys.

55
  • Andrea Odenbach
  • Our newest diver in this category, Andrea
Odenbach, improved rapidly throughout the year.
Her first meet was the Alberta Winter Provincials
in Edmonton where she just dove on the 1 meter
board, while developing her newer dives.
  • She placed 15th with a score of 252.55. She dove
in the 1 meter open event as well and was 29th
with a score of 132.35. The Open events only
    have 5 dives.
  • In Saskatoon, in April, Andrea improved her
scores considerably and had 317.60 on 1 meter for
8th place and was 9th on the 3 meter with 352.65.
She also dove in the Open, she was 19th on 1
meter with 137.10 and 12th on 3 meter with
    345.85.
  • In the Alberta Summer Provincials in Calgary, she
placed 19th on 1 meter with 313.05 and 19th on
the 3 meter with 346.65. Andrea also dove in the
open 3 meter where she was 17th with 362.05.

56
  • Andrea is another one of the new additions to my
group. Last year Andrea joined the ESP diving
club with hopes to improve on the talent that she
    already had.
  • Andrea supplied us with a great year, constantly
getting better from the start of the year right
to the very end. She very quickly got better with
    increasing training.
  • This year she will be working hard to hopefully
gain a spot on the team that travels to
nationals, and maybe even putting together a
    tower list!
  • ADAM

57
  • Amy Gallant
  • Amy Gallants first meet of the year was the
Polar Bear Classic in Winnipeg where she placed
    15th on 1 meter with 166.00, 25th on 3 meter with
142.55 and 34th on the open 1 meter with 144.20.
  • Amy then went to Victoria for the Speedo Sting
    and was 29th on 1 meter with 118.55, 25th on 3
meter with 143.30 and 41st in the open 1 meter
    with 147.40.
  • At our Winter Provincials in Edmonton, Amy placed
    14th on 1 meter with 287.55, 12th on 3 meter with
284.90. She dove in both of the open events and
    had 23rd on 1 meter with 160.25 and 24th on 3

  • David Ovelson
  • David Ovelson, another A boy, was off most of
the year with injuries and sickness and was not
able to compete until April at the Western
Canadian Championships in Saskatoon. David was
2nd on the 1 meter with 477.40 and won the 3

  • He went on to the Age Group Nationals where on 1
meter he won the silver medal with a score of
493.35, which would have qualified him to go to
the Brazil championships if he had 1.65 points
more to make the 495.00 standard. On the 3
meter, David placed 3rd with a score of 516.30.
  • David is healthy this year and he is back doing
many much harder dives, he has a pike list and
some 3.4 dives, we can expect great things from
David at the senior level in 2005.

  • Cory Watson
  • Cory Watson had and exceptional year. This was
his first year in the A age group. Cory used his
physical strength advantage to compete a full
pike list on the 3 meter springboard and some
very difficult dives on the 10 meter platform as
    well.
  • Cory started off the season in Montréal at the
CAMO Invitational with a 7th place on the 3 meter
and a 7th place on the 1 meter with almost
identical scores of 408.65 on the 1 meter and
    408.55 on the 3 meter.
  • Cory was on the Alberta team, and competed in
    Orlando, Florida at the International
Invitational Competition and had an 11th place on
the 1 meter with 361.50 and on the 3 meter had
7th place with 203.55 (these were optional only
    scores).
  • In Victoria at the Speedo Sting International
Invitational Cory had a bronze medal on the 1
meter in his age group with a score 458.65, and
10th place on the 3 meter with 386.55 on
platform. He was fifth with 399.65, in the open
event he had an 11th place on 1 meter with

66

on 1 meter with 283.10 and he had a 2nd place on
the 3 meter with 535.05, which is an excellent
    score.
  • Cory went on to Calgary to the Senior National
Diving Championships. Cory scored 258.36 on the 3
meter placing19th, 283.77 on the 1 meter placing
    9th.
  • In April Cory went to the Saskatoon Western
Canadian Diving Championships and he had a 1st

medal on the 3 meter with 476.85 and he won the
platform with 474.25. In the open event's Cory
    had a 2nd place on 1 meter with 291.40 had a 2nd

and trials for the World Junior Championship in
Brazil, Cory was 5th on the platform with 486.72,
and 4th place on the 3 meter with a score of
511.92 and on the 1 meter he had to make a score
of 495.00 in order to qualify for the team and
also be 1st or 2nd Cory was 1st in the Canadian
Championship with 500.19 points. Cory was
selected to the team to represent Canada in
October in Brazil at the World Junior Diving
Championships. This was Corys first National
    Championship title.
  • We will be looking toward even better results for
Cory in the next two years while he remains in
the same age group. At the Senior Championship
especially on 10 meter and 3 meter we expect him
to be a finalist with no particular limitations
there as he will probably be doing amongst
hardest dives of anybody in the country, along
    with his senior teammates.

Senior International Level
69
  • Reuben Ross
  • At the Senior level, we had Reuben Ross whos
first event of the year was the CAMO Invitational
where he placed 18th on the 3 meter with 293.46
and 15th on platform with 343.14, this qualified
him to be a member of the Senior International
traveling team, as was the same case with Taryn
Zack from her score on the 3 meter at the same
    meet.
  • Reuben went on to the Orlando competition and was
    3rd on the 1 meter with 433.85, 3rd on 3 meter
    with 346.35 and 3rd on platform with 525.45, a
    personal best.
  • At the Speedo Sting, Reuben placed 2nd on the 1
meter with 328.95, 3rd on 3 meter with 552.70 and
    3rd on platform with 471.95.
  • In the Alberta diving championship, Reuben won
the 1 meter with 355.05, bronze medal on 3 meter
with 521.75 and he won the platform with a score
    of 520.90.

70
  • Reuben and Taryn then traveled to Madrid, Spain,
where they represented Canada with the other
members of our Canadian team, which were
basically all our Olympic team members.
  • Reuben had a 21st place on platform and Taryn had
    a 21st place on 3 meter and Reuben had a 15th
place on the 3 meter. This was Reuben and
Taryns first international diving experience and
they learned a number of things which helped them
    in other events.
  • The experience that Reuben and Taryn gained was
very helpful, because the following week back in
Calgary at the Senior National Diving
Championships, Taryn placed 6th on the 3 meter
which qualified her to go to the Canada Cup and
Reuben placed 4th on the 3 meter which qualified
him to go to Canada Cup and the US Grand Prix in
    Texas.
  • Reuben attended the Western Canadian Championship
in Saskatoon, where he won gold medals on all
three boards with 329.10 on 1 meter, 616.55 on 3
meter and 494.45 on the platform.

71
  • At the Canada Cup in Victoria, Taryn placed 25th
with a score of 213.18 with optionals only.
Reuben was 20th with 327.93. Again Reuben and
Taryn were learning to dive against the very best
divers in the whole world and still maintain
    their focus.
  • Reuben then went to Texas the following week
where he was 24th with a score of 302.07.
  • All of this experience paid off because at the
Olympic trials in June, in Winnipeg, Taryn was
able to place 9th in the Womens 3 meter Olympic
Trials even though she was suffering from a back
injury and was not able to train properly. She
learned to maintain her focus from the experience
of the year and not miss any of her dives.
  • Rueben on the other hand was not injured and came
4th at the Olympic Trials just behind three
divers all of whom are Olympic veterans. His
score was 608.52 in the prelims and an additional
390.12 points on top of that for a total of
998.64. It looks like Reuben can be thinking
very seriously about being on that Olympic Team
in 2008 in Beijing as well can Taryn.
