• A personalized PLAN OF STUDY is a learner owned,
  comprehensive, career focused, educational
  strategy.

Simply put

• A Plan of Study is a roadmap that guides
  students through the coursework and activities
  that will help them to achieve their personal
  career goals.

Career Plan and Plan of study

• Career plan involves documentation of the
  services that have been done for a student
• Still important as it shows us where we have been
  with a student and where we are trying to help
  the student get
• Plan of study continues that career plan and
  shows the sequence of courses needed
• Can be combined

Guidance Standard

• Are student service strategy plans, individual
  career plans, or locally created plans of study
  developed, updated, and on file for all students
  to identify and document career and academic
  services to be provided for program success and
  potential employability of individual students?

Cluster and Pathway Sample Plans of Study

• The Cluster and Pathway sample Plans of Study can
  be used to assist students in completing their
  personalized Plans of Study.
• Cluster Cluster Plans of Study are focused on
  a broad set of related occupations that share
  commonalities
• Pathway Pathway Plans of Study are focused on
  a subset of related occupations within a Career
  Cluster

• A format that serves as a learning record and
  looks toward the past
• Plan of Study
• A format that identifies what is to be achieved
  and looks toward the future

What do Plans of Study do?

• Plans of Study meet benchmarks within the
  National and Oklahoma standards for school
  counseling
• Plans of Study take into account what happens to
  students outside the walls of the school building
• Plans of Study can provide a process and product
  for students to use that opens them up to unique
  educational and career opportunities

• Plans of Study provide a road map to reach a
  students career goals
• Plans of Study connect the Career
  Cluster/Pathway/Career Major with the appropriate
  academic courses to promote student success
• Plans of Study increase awareness of CTE

• Develop Plan of Study for each student
• Strengthen the plan of study to be career
  focused, NOT focused on meeting graduation
  requirements
• Work to connect guidance strategies from middle
  school to high school to tech center to college
• Recognize the value of a career not a college
  scholarship

In an Ideal World

• We dont live in an ideal world
• How are you helping your partner school develop a
  plan of study for their students
• AND/OR
• How will you develop plans of study with your
  students

Suggestions for Implementing

• Teachers as Advisors system
• Special enrollment sessions, both afternoon and
  evening sessions conducted for all first-year
  students with counselor or teacher advisor,
  student and parents completing the Plan of Study
  and enrolling
• Student, counselor or teacher advisor, and
  parents complete the POS during parent conference
  days
• Counselor or teachers advisor schedules 30 minute
  segments to complete the POS with each first-year
  student and parents are invited
• Some class time for first-year students is
  devoted to completing the POS
• Small groups of students work with a counselor or
  teacher advisors to complete the POS and parents
  are invited to attend
• Students and parents make night or Saturday
  appointments with a counselor or teacher advisor
  to complete the POS
• Tie attendance of parents at POS meeting with
  their students enrollment for the following year
