Comprehensive Health Education Act 1970
- Requires that health education be taught in

- Elementary Specific time requirements purposely
avoided. Schools are expected to have a well
developed plan to insure the inclusion of health
curricula.

- Secondary Minimal time allocation is to be not
less than one semester hour or its equivalency
during middle school (6,7,8) or junior high
school (7,8,9) AND Not less than one semester
hour or its equivalency of a more advanced
curriculum during high school (grades 9-12 or
grades 10-12). - State mandated requirement for high school
graduation.

9What specific topics MUST you cover?
- The Illinois School Code specifies that the
following major content areas shall be included
within the comprehensive health education
curricula in all state elementary and secondary
public schools. Specific topics that are state
mandated to be included within the curriculum are
identified by grade level (E Elementaryk-5,
MMiddle School6-8, HS 9-12 and with an
asterisk ().

transmission, and spread of AIDS (HIV) in drug

Just Say No Day in October. - No pupil shall be required to take or
participate in any class or course on AIDS
instruction or family life (and sex education) if
the pupils parent or guardian submits WRITTEN
OBJECTION thereto, and refusal to take or
participate in such course or program shall not
be reason for suspension or expulsion of such
person.
