Transition from Praxis to GACE
  • Praxis assessments ended on August 31, 2006 with
    these exceptions
  • Speech and Language Pathology will continue to be
    Praxis.
  • If candidate has passed one part of a content
    requirement or Praxis I he/she has until
    March 1, 2007 to pass other part(s).
  • Leadership assessment will continue for one more
    year.
  • On-line Paraprofessional assessments will
    continue until March 2007.

GACE Program Information
  • GACE is the required assessment beginning
    September 1, 2006.
  • Passing Praxis and TCT scores will continue to
    be accepted, but anyone who has not passed at
    least one part of their Praxis content assessment
    must take and pass the appropriate GACE
    assessment.

GACE Program Information
Background
  • Development initiated by the Professional
    Standards Commission
  • Developed and administered by the National
    Evaluation Systems, Inc. (NES)
  • Fully aligned with national standards, Georgia
    Performance Standards for grades P-12, and
    Georgia educator preparation rules
  • First administration will be November 18, 2006.

Assessment Design
  • Most assessments will have two subtests, each
    with 60 multiple choice items and a constructed
    response 4 hours for each subtest.
  • Both subtests must be passed to meet assessment
    requirement.
  • Each MS content test will be the equivalent of
    one multiple choice and constructed response
    sub-test but candidates may take two fields in
    one 4 hours total.
  • (Some assessments contain special exercises such
    as foreign language speaking and listening)
