Background
- Project for Public Spaces (PPS) identified Ashman
Circle and S. Saginaw as a major destination area
in Midland - Results from previous studies and the PPS group
identified several issues with this area - Traffic problems
- Not Pedestrian friendly
- Lack of coordinated events
- Weathered buildings/worn parking lots
- Empty buildings
- Industrial overhead lighting

Background cont.
- The PPS group determined that to move forward
with any initiative for this area, there needed
to be an organization willing to accept the
leadership role. - Midland Area Chamber of Commerce committed to
provide staffing for the initiative for up to
three years. - In early 2007, the Midland Area Chamber of
Commerce began work on the "Center City
Initiative."

Corridor Improvement Authority
- Similar to a Downtown Development Authority
- Once established, it will be a department of the
City of Midland
- It will be governed by a Board of Directors
- Board of Directors serves as an advisory
committee to the City Council
- Board is responsible for improvement planning
including financing options

Area served by municipal water and sewer
