Title: Welcome to Mrs' Duttons

1
Welcome to Mrs. Duttons
  • Fourth Grade Class!

2
Goals
  • To provide a positive and motivating learning
    environment for your child
  • For each child to reach his or her highest
    potential while in my classroom
  • To give students the tools they need to be highly
successful students, not only this year, but in
    the years to come

3
Expectations
  • I have extremely high expectations of all my
students, both academically and behaviorally. We
will work together to develop a classroom
environment where all students can succeed.
Success is defined not by perfection, but rather
each person doing his or her very best. Please
encourage your child to come to school each day
prepared to give their best effort!

  • It is also a wonderful communication tool
between home and school. Please feel free to
write questions or comments to me in your childs
planner. Also, please check and sign your childs
    planner each day.
  • If possible, the school is asking parents for
a 5.00 donation to cover the cost of the
planners and school folders. Thank you!

12
Make-Up Work
  • Typically, if a child only misses one or two days
of school, their work can be made up in the
classroom when they return. However, if they are
absent for a more extended period of time it may
be necessary for them to work on make-up work at
home. Please call or email me to arrange a time
you can pick up their work.

13
New Report Cards
  • Why are we changing?
  • Our district is moving towards correlating with
    National Standards
  • The district wants parents to be more aware of
the standards that your child is responsible for
    mastering throughout the school year

14
Report Cards
  • Students will no longer receive a letter grade
  • on their assignments or report cards.
  • M Meet State Standards
  • P Progressing toward state standards
  • N Not meeting state standards
  • Classwork, homework, test and quizzes will use
  • the same performance indicators

15
Assessment and Evaluation
  • Combination of Measures in determining level of
    mastery
  • Can the student demonstrate the skill on his/her
    own?
  • Can the student teach and explain the skill in
    depth to others?
  • Students need to prove their mastery of standards
through work samples and extension of skills
    through higher order thinking.
  • Class work, quizzes, and tests will also be used
    in determining level of mastery.
