What is Talent Development?
  • The official story
  • Established 1968.
  • The mission -- recruit, support, retain
    students of color disadvantaged students from
    in-state.
  • The students -- high schools, and both community
    faith based agencies.

  • TDs connection to the library goes back to
    1968
  • Taught by TD staff
  • Unaware that they could ask for instruction
    assistance.

  • Scavenger hunts and other methods used.
  • It workedbut it wasnt perfect.
  • 1996 -- Sylvia Krause (Head of Reference)
    contacted Sharon about instruction.

TD Library 1998 - Present
  • We want the students to learn basic system
    literacy. To make the library a place that
    theyre comfortable walking through the doors.
    And create connectionsto the staff.

  • Students more willing to come over to the library
    and ask questions and not wait for the computer
    tutors to come around.
