2Our Questions
- How can we get the latest career information to
patrons? - What should we do about our underused magazine
and newspaper collection? - How can Career Resource Library staff stay
up-to-date on career trends?
3CareerNow!, our career news blog at Simmons
College, is integrated directly into our website
using Moveable Type blog software.
4We set up some of our librarys online databases
to search for specified keywords each week and
notify us of any new articles through email
alerts.
5This sample article is from an alert for the
subject search college graduates in ABI/INFORM
Global. Next step a student worker will write a
short summary for the blog.
6The sample article is then entered into the
editing form in our blogging software
application. Were now just one click away from
publishing our entry no need to bug the web
office!
7Voilà! Our blog entry is published!
8Users can select a category to browse all entries
for that topic.
Each blog entry is assigned to one or more
categories.
9We also gather content from Newsgator, a news
aggregator that compiles RSS feeds from various
sources, which provides us with an easy way to
track breaking career information on the web.
10Heres a web article discovered after reading a
Newsgator posting. Our next step to evaluate it
and summarize for our blog or e-Library, if
appropriate.
11RSS allows students to keep track of career news
from our blog with a feed reader or postings to
their personalized Google or Yahoo home pages.
12This was a prototype version of CareerNow! that I
set up myself using Blogger before our web office
got involved.
