Title: Operations Strategy Progress Review
1SP-2000 Commuting Policy
- A) 2.2.7 Driving Between Field Locations and
Residence (MSE/15) - PDO and Contractors shall provide transport for
their employees between - their permanent residence and their place of work
in the field location. - Such transport shall fully comply with
requirements of this Specification. - PDO and Contractors shall strongly discourage
their employees from using - their own vehicles for this purpose. Note that
where such travel in a private - vehicle takes place between the place of
residence and normal place of work - (i.e. commuting) such travel is considered
non-work related. - Some of the Issues to consider
- Recent fatalities associated with commuting
- PDO and Contractors do not comply (offer
allowances beyond main hubs) - Private Vehicles
- Some villages not easily accessible
- Allowances seem more attractive to some people
car pooling - Commuting is a routine matter at the coast, why
not in the interior?

B) Peer Assisted Review Road Transport
Management (February 2006) (UWL)
The public service Desert King buses contravene
Traffic Law speed -arrive in Muscat from Marmul 4
hours quicker than Al Sumri contracted buses.
Contractors buy tickets on the cheaper and
quicker , but non-compliant bus service. Desert
King charge OMR 3 compared to Al Sumri OMR 7 for
Fahud to Muscat on public services. MSE/UWL to
agree on strategy to resolve this issue. Way
Forward??
