The Storyteller Dan Brown
6
  • Dan Brown is the author of numerous bestselling
novels, including the 1 New York Times
bestseller, The Da Vinci Code -- one of the best
    selling novels of all time.

7
  • Recently named one of the World's 100 Most
Influential People by TIME Magazine, Dan Brown
has made appearances on CNN, The Today Show,

as in the pages of Newsweek, Forbes, People, GQ,
The New Yorker, and others. His novels have been
translated and published in more than 40
    languages around the world.

8
The Storyline of the Da Vinci Code
  • While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist
Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night
phone call. The elderly curator of the Louvre has
been murdered inside the museum, a baffling
cipher found near the body. As Langdon and a gift
French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, sort through
the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover
a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci
clues visible for all to see and yet
    ingeniously disguised by the painter.

9
  • The stakes are raised when Langdon uncovers a
startling link the late curator was involved in
the Priory of Sion an actual secret society
whose members included Sir Isaac Newton,
Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among
others. Unless they can decipher the
labyrinthine puzzle, the Priorys secret and an
explosive ancient truth will be lost forever.

10
The Success of the Da Vinci Code
  • The Da Vinci Code has sold some 40 million copies
worldwide and is now being adapted for film by
    Columbia Pictures.

    conspiracy

13
The Presentation of a conspiracy
  • There has been a conspiracy over the last 2,000
years to suppress the truth about the sacred
    feminine (goddess worship).

14
  • The purpose of Dan Browns book
  • Answer The revival of the sacred feminine

15
Brown believes that his critics miss the point of
his novel
  • That being this, one simple undebateable truth
Prior to 2,000 years ago we lived in a world of
gods and goddesses. Today we live in a world
solely of gods. Women in most cultures have been
stripped of their spiritual power and our male
dominated philosophies of absolutism have a long
history of violence and bloodshed which continues
    to this day.

16
  • I simply wrote a story that explores how and why
this shift might have occurred, what it says
about our past and more importantly what it says
    about our future.

17
The Purpose for the conspiracy
  • The Priorys tradition of perpetuating goddess
worship is based on a belief that powerful men in
the early Christian church conned the world by
propagating lies that devalued the female and
tipped the scales in favor of the masculine."
    (Page 124)

18
  • Women, once celebrated as an essential half of
spiritual enlightenment, had been banished from
the temples of the world. There were no female
Orthodox rabbis, Catholic priests, nor Islamic
    clerics. (page 125)

19
  • The days of the goddess were over. The pendulum
had swung. Mother Earth had become a mans world,
and the gods of destruction and war were taking
their toll. The male ego had spent two millennia
running unchecked by it female counterpart.

20
  • The Priory of Sion believed that it was this
obliteration of the sacred feminine in modern
life that had causedlife out of balance an
    unstable situation marked by testosterone-fueled
wars, a plethora of misogynistic societies, and a
growing disrespect for mother earth. (pages
    125-126)

21
  • The Perversion of History by Constantine to
    support the conspiracy

22
  • The Priory believes that Constantine and his
male successors successfully converted the world
    from matriarchal paganism to patriarchal
Christianity by waging a campaign of propaganda
that demonized the sacred feminine, obliterating
the goddess from modern religion forever." (Page
    124)

23
  • In Constantines day, Romes official religion
was sun worship the cult of the Invisible Sun
and Constantine was its head priest.
Unfortunately for him, a growing religious
turmoil was gripping Rome. Three centuries after
the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Christs
    followers had multiplied exponentially.
Christians and pagans began warring, and the
conflict grew to such proportions that it
threatened to rend Rome in two. Constantine
decided something needed to be done. In 325 A.D.,
he decided to unify Rome under a single religion.
    Christianity. (page 232)

24
  • Constantine.could see that Christianity was on
the rise, and he simply backed the winning horse.
Historians still marvel at the brilliance with
    which Constantine converted the sun-worshipping
pagans to Christianity. By fusing pagan symbols,
date, and rituals into the growing tradition, he
created a kind of hybrid religion that was
    acceptable to both parties.
  • (page 232)

25
So what does the Da Vinci Code believe is the
real truth?
  • 1. The Bible is mans book, not Gods book. It
is part of a conspiracy to control the
    multitudes.

26
  • The Bible is a product of man,.Not of God. The
Bible did not fall magically from the clouds. Man
created it as a historical record of tumultuous
times, and it has evolved through countless
    translations, additions, and revisions. History
has never had a definitive version of the book.
    (page 231)

27
  • 2. The Roman Emperor Constantine, not God,
determined what would be in the Bible.

28
  • Who chose which gospels to include?....Aha!....
The fundamental irony of Christianity! The
Bible, as we know it today, was collated by the
pagan Roman emperor Constantine the Great.
    (page 231)

29
  • 3. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John are false Gospels.

30
  • Jesus Christ was a historical figure of
staggering influence, perhaps the most enigmatic
and inspirational leader the world has ever seen.
As the prophesied Messiah, Jesus toppled kings,
    inspired millions, and founded new
    philosophies.Understandably, His life was
recorded by thousands of followers across the
land.More than eighty gospels were considered
for the New Testament, and yet only a relative
few were chosen for inclusion Matthew, Mark,
Luke, and John among them. (page 231)

31
  • "Constantine commissioned and financed a new
Bible, which omitted those gospels that spoke of
Christs human traits and embellished those
gospels that made Him godlike. The earlier
gospels were outlawed, gathered up, and burned."
    (Page 234)

32
  • 4. The Gnostic Gospels are True
  • Gospels.

33
  • Gnosticism acquired its name from the term for
knowledge (gnosis). Its followers believed that
salvation came through higher knowledge that
is, divinely revealed truths about the nature of
reality.the Gnostic Jesus, unlike the Jesus of
Christianity, was not the Savior who died for
sins. He was the bringer of gnosis.
  • Richard Abanes, pages 21-22

34
  • The Gospel of Thomas,
  • The Gospel of Philip
  • The Gospel of Mary Magdalene
  • The Gospel of the Egyptians
  • The Gospel of Truth

35
  • Fortunately for historianssome of the gospels
that Constantine attempted to eradicate managed
to survive. The Dead Sea Scrolls were found in
the 1950s hidden in a cave near Qumran in the
Judean desert. And, of course, the Coptic Scrolls
in 1945 at Nag Hammadi. In addition to telling
the true Grail story, these documents speak of
Christs ministry in very human terms. (page
    234)

36
  • Of course, the Vatican, in keeping with their
tradition of misinformation, tried very hard to
suppress the release of these scrolls. And why
wouldnt they? The scrolls highlight glaring
    historical discrepancies and fabrications,
clearly confirming that the modern Bible was
compiled and edited by men who possessed a
political agenda to promote the divinity of the
man Jesus Christ and use His influence to
solidify their own power base. (p. 234)

37
  • What I meanis that almost everything our
fathers taught us about Christ is false. (page
    235)

38
  • 5. Jesus was only viewed as a human prophet, not
as the Son of God until A.D. 325.

39
  • Constantine needed to strengthen the new
Christian tradition, and held a famous ecumenical
gathering known as the Council of Nicaea. At this
    gatheringmany aspects of Christianity were
debated and voted upon the date of Easter, the
role of the bishops, the administration of the
sacraments, and, of course, the divinity of
    Jesus. (page 233)

40
  • until that moment in history, Jesus was viewed
by His followers as a mortal propheta great and
powerful man, but a man nonetheless. A
mortal.Jesus establishment as the Son of God
was officially proposed and voted on by the
    Council of Nicaea. (page 233)

41
  • Hold on. Youre saying Jesus divinity was the
result of a vote? A relatively close vote at
    that.Nonetheless, establishing Christs divinity
was critical to the further unification of the
Roman empire and to the new Vatican power base.
By officially endorsing Jesus as the Son of God,
Constantine turned Jesus into a deity who existed
beyond the scope of the human world, an entity
    whose power was unchallengeable.
  • (page 233)

42
  • 6. Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married, and had
a daughter named Sarah, that resulted in a Royal
bloodline that exists to this day.

43
  • As I said earlier, the marriage of Jesus and
Mary Magdalene is part of the historical
record. These are photocopies of the Nag Hammadi
and Dead Sea scrolls, which I mentioned
    earlier.The earliest Christian records.
Troublingly, they do not match up with the
gospels in the Bible. (pages 245-246)

44
  • Quoting the Gospel of Philip And the companion
of the Savior is Mary Magdalene. Christ loved her
more than all the disciples and used to kiss her
often on her mouth. The rest of the disciples
were offended by it and expressed disapproval.
They said to him, Why do you love her more than
    all of us? (page 246)

45
  • Quoting the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, And
Peter said, Did the Saviour really speak with a
woman without our knowledge? Are we to turn about
and all listen to her? Did he prefer he to us?
And Levi answered, Peter, you have always been
hot-tempered. Now I see you contending against
the woman like an adversary. If the Saviour made
her worthy, who are you indeed to reject her?
Surely the Saviour knows her very well. That is
why he loved her more than us. (page 247)

46
  • According to these unaltered gospels, it was not
Peter to whom Christ gave directions with which
to establish the Christian Church. It was Mary
Magdalene. That was the plan. Jesus was the
original feminist. He intended for the future of
His Church to be in the hand of Mary Magdalene.
    (page 248)

47
  • Behold,the greatest cover-up in human history.
Not only was Jesus Christ married, but He was a
father.Mary Magdalene was the Holy Vessel. She
was the chalice that bore the royal bloodline of
Jesus Christ. She was the womb that bore the
lineage, and the vine from which sacred fruit
    sprang forth! (page 249)

48
  • The Grail is literally the ancient symbol for
womanhood, and the Holy Grail represents the
sacred feminine and the goddess, which of course
has now been lost, virtually eliminated by the
    Church. (page 238)

49
  • The quest for the Holy Grail is literally the
quest to kneel before the bones of Mary
Magdalene. A journey to pray at the feet of the
outcast one, the lost sacred feminine. (page
    257)

50
  • It was man, not God, who created the concept of
original sin, whereby Eve tasted of the apple
and caused the downfall of the human
race.Genesis tells us that Eve was created from
Adams rib. Woman became the offshoot of man. And
a sinful one at that. Genesis was the beginning
of the end for the goddess. The Grailis symbolic
of the lost goddess. (page 238)

51
  • 7.The secrets of the Royal Bloodline of Jesus and
Mary Magdalene, the documents that prove this
lineage, and the bones of Mary have been
preserved and protected by a secret society known
    as the Priory of Sion.

52
  • But how could a secret that big be kept quiet
all of these years? Heavens!...It has been
anything but quiet! The royal bloodline of Jesus
Christ is the source of the most enduring legend
of all time the Holy Grail. Magdalenes story
has been shouted from the rooftops for centuries
in all kinds of metaphors and languages. Her
story is everywhere if you open your eyes. (page
    249)

53
  • Its a matter of historical recordand Da Vinci
was certainly aware of that fact. The Last Supper
practically shouts at the viewer that Jesus and
Magdalene were a pair. (page 244)

55
  • The Holy Grail is Mary Magdalenethe mother of
the royal bloodline of Jesus Christ. As you can
seeLeonardo is not the only one who has been
trying to tell the world the truth about the Holy
Grail. The royal bloodline of Jesus Christ has
been chronicled in exhaustive detail by scores of
    historians. (page 253)

56
  • The modern Priory of Sion has a momentous duty.
Theirs is a threefold charge. The brotherhood
must protect the Sangreal Royal Blood
documents. They must protect the tomb of Mary
Magdalene. And, of course, they must nurture and
protect the bloodline of Christ those few
members of the royal Merovingian bloodline who
have survived into modern times. (page 258)

57
  • Well, there it is according to The Da Vinci
Code, Christianity was built on a lie, but pagan
polytheism and goddess worship were structured on
    the truth!

58
The Persuaded mind of Dan Brown about the
conspiracy
  • In an interview on Good Morning America the day
of the special, he declared that if he had been
asked to write a piece of nonfiction on these
things, he would change nothing about what he
    claimed in the novel.
  • Darrell Bock, p. 3

59
  • Brown.told the primetime audience of around 15
million viewers.I began as a skeptic. As I
started researching the Da Vinci Code, I really
thought I would disprove a lot of this theory
about Mary Magdalene and Holy Blood and all of
    that. I became a believer.

81
  • As for the New Testament, its formation began by
the end of the first century (about 90 or 100)
    almost 200 years before Constantine.
  • (Richard Abanes)

82
  • in the Western church an official list of the 27
New Testament books was not confirmed until 393
(at the Council of Hippo) and 397 (at the Council
of Carthage). In the Eastern church, agreement
about the New Testament began solidifying as
early as 367.Obviously, all these dates are
    after Constantines death.
  • (Richard Abanes)

83
  • 3. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John are the
  • real Gospels.

84
Approximate dates for the writing of the 4 true
Gospels
  • Matthew before A.D. 70
  • Mark before A.D. 70
  • Luke before A.D. 64
  • John before A.D. 95
  • All of them were written at least 225 years
before Constantine and the Council of Nicea!

85
  • The four gospels in our present Bible were chosen
for good reason. First, early in church history,
four centers of Christianity emerged Jerusalem,
Antioch, Alexander, and Rome. These centers of
Christianity used the four gospels in our present
Bible. Christian leaders who lived between A.D.
95 and 170 consistently point to the reliability
    of the New Testament Gospels.
  • (Ron Rhodes)

86
  • 1. CLEMENT. Clement was a leading elder in the
church at Rome. In his epistle to the Corinthians
    (c. A.D. 95), he cites portions of Matthew, Mark,
and Luke, and introduces them as the actual words
    of Jesus.8

87
  • 2. PAPIAS. Papias, the bishop of Hierapolis in
Phrygia and author of Exposition of Oracles of
the Lord (c. A.D. 130), cites the Gospels of
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, presumably as
canonical. He specifically refers to Johns
Gospel as containing the words of Jesus.9

88
  • 3. JUSTIN MARTYR. Justin Martyr, foremost
apologist of the second century (A.D. 140),
considered all four Gospels to be Scripture.10

89
  • 4. THE DIDACHE. The Didache, an ancient manual of
Christianity that dates between the end of the
first century and the beginning of the second
century, cites portions of the three synoptic
Gospels and refers to them as the words of Jesus.
This manual quotes extensively from Matthews
    gospel.11

90
  • 5. POLYCARP. Polycarp, a disciple of the apostle
John, quotes portions of Matthew, Mark, and Luke,
and refers to them as the words of Jesus (c. A.D.
    150).12

91
  • 6. IRENAEUS. Irenaeus, a disciple of Polycarp (c.
    A.D. 170), quoted from twenty-three of the
twenty-seven New Testament books, omitting only
    Philemon, James, 2 Peter, and 3 John.13

92
  • 7. The Muratorian Fragment dates to about A.D.
175, and lists the four canonical gospels.
Indeed, it lists 23 of the 27 books in the New

  • In his classic Adversus Haereses (Against
Heresies), Irenaeus (A.D. 130-200) refers to "an
unspeakable number of apocryphal and spurious
writings, which they themselves heretics had
forged, to bewilder the minds of the foolish."15

98
  • One of the Gnostic gospels discovered at Nag
Hammadi in 1945 is The Gospel of Truth, about
which Irenaeus says "It agrees in nothing with
the Gospels of the Apostles, so that they have
really no Gospel which is not full of blasphemy.

99
  • For if what they have published is the Gospel of
Truth, and yet is totally unlike those which have
been handed down to us by the Apostles,... then
that which has been handed down from the Apostles
can no longer be reckoned the Gospel of Truth."16

100
  • Origen (A.D. 185-253) noted that "the Church
possesses four Gospels, heresy a great many."17

101
  • Moreover, no onenot even liberal
theologiansbelieves The Gospel of Thomas was
written by the biblical Thomas, and that The
Gospel of Philip was written by the biblical
    Philip.

102
  • The Gnostic Gospels cannot properly be called
gospels. Neither The Gospel of Truth nor The
Gospel of Philip, as case examples, contain an
orderly account of the birth, life, deeds, death,
and resurrection of Christ. Both lack Old
    Testament background, ethical exhortations, and
end-time eschatology. Ignorance is said to be the
primary culprit of mans condition, not sin.28
Therefore, in no sense of the word can these
    documents be properly referred
  • to as gospels.

103
  • By contrast, the four New Testament Gospels all
contain orderly accounts of the birth, life,
deeds, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
They also point to the glorious "good news" of
redemption in Jesus Christ, and are therefore
"gospels" in the truest sense of the word.

  • The Council of Nicea convened in A.D. 325 to
settle a dispute regarding the nature of Christ.
Arius, a presbyter of Alexandria who was the
founder of Arianism, argued that the Son was
created from the non-existent, and was of a
different substance than the Father. There was a
time, Arius argued, when the Son was not. But
Christ was the highest of all created beings.
Arius heavily promoted his views, sending letters
to numerous churches. The effect was that
    Constantines empire was suffering religious
disharmony and division. To deal with this,
Constantine called the Council of Nicea so the
    bishops could settle the controversy.

139
  • Athanasius of Alexandria, the champion of
orthodoxy, set forth the correct orthodox (and
long-held) view that the Son was the same divine
substance as the Father (and hence, was fully
divine). Athanasius argued for the eternally
personal existence of the Son. The bishops sided
with Athanasius because they had long recognized
that this was, in fact, the biblical teaching.
Seen in this light, Dan Brown is flat wrong in
his assertion that Jesus was not recognized as
God until the Council of Nicea voted him as God
by a "close vote." (By the way, the vote in the
council was 300 to 2, hardly a close vote.)

  • 6. Jesus and Mary Magdalene were never
  • married.

141
  • Most scholars have long believed that Jesus was
single, and we will examine three arguments
supporting that belief. No early Christian text
we possess, either biblical or extrabiblical,
indicates the presence of a wife during His
ministry, His crucifixion, or after His
    resurrection. Whenever texts mention Jesus
family, they refer to His mother, brothers and
sisters but never to a wife. Furthermore, there
is no hint that He was widowed.
  • Darrell Bock

142
  • This is the entire inventory of New Testament
references about Mary Magdalene eleven passages
total (twelve counting Mark 169). She was a
disciple and traveling supporter of Jesus among a
group of other women. She was never related to
Him in any other sense. Although other women in
the group were connected to males as relatives,
Mary was not. She was a witness to the Cross, the
burial, and the Resurrection. That was it.

  • In my office there are thirty-eight volumes of
early church documents, each of several hundred
pages, double columns, in small print. The fact
that out of all of this material, only two texts
can be brought forward as even ancient candidates
for the theory shows how utterly unlikely it is.

  • Quoting the Gospel of Philip And the companion
of the Savior is Mary Magdalene. Christ loved her
more than all the disciples and used to kiss her
often on her mouth. The rest of the disciples
were offended by it and expressed disapproval.
They said to him, Why do you love her more than
    all of us? (page 246)

145
What about the Gospel of Philip text?
  • However, they key part of the text is broken at
6333-36 and reads, And the companion of the
Mary Magdalene. loved her more than all the
disciples and used to kiss her often on her
. The brackets indicate broken locations in
the manuscript where there is no reading because
the manuscript is damaged. Talk about a mystery
    to solve.

146
  • What these books neglect to mention is the
infamous final verse of the Gospel of Thomas.
When Peter sneers that women are not worthy of
Life, Jesus responds, I myself shall lead her
in order to make her male.... For every woman who
will make herself male will enter the Kingdom of
Heaven. Thats certainly an odd way to honor
ones spouse or exalt the status of women.

linen is the righteousness of saints.

Fact page of The Da Vinci Code
  • The Priory of Sion A European secret society
    founded in 1099is a real organization.In 1975
    Pariss Bibliotheque Nationale discovered
parchments know as Les Dossiers Secrets,
identifying numerous members of the Priory of
Sion, including Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli,
Victor Hugo, and Leonardo da Vinci.
  • All descriptions of artwork, architecture,
documents, and secret rituals in this novel are
    accurate.

151
  • The Priorys role in this novel is supposedly
proven by a cache of documents that were
discovered in the Bibliotheque Nationale in
Paris. These documents really do exist, but they
were planted there by a forger named Pierre
Plantard. In fact, one of Plantards henchmen
admitted to assisting him in the fabrication of
    these materials, including the genealogical
tables and lists of the Priorys grand
mastersall trumpeted as truth in The Da Vinci
    Code.

152
  • Plantards hoax was actually exposed in a series
of French books and a BBC documentary in 1966,
but this newsfortunately for Dan Brownis
reaching our shores only at glacial speed.
Plantard turned out to be an anti-Semite with a
criminal record for fraud, while the real Priory
of Sion is a little splinter social group founded
half a century ago. The most important strand in
the central plot of The Da Vinci Code, then is a
total hoax. So much for the Fact Brown claims
