Introduction
  • 1. Research Facts
  • a. A seed is a ripened plant ovule containing
    an embryo.
  • b. Germination is to grow or develop.
  • c. The conditions that cause seed to germinate
is that the soil temperature needs to be in the
appropriate range and when water and oxygen are
    available.
  • 2. Problem or Question to solve
  • a. Problem Farmer Pham needs to know the best
    way to germinate beans.
  • b. Testable Question What are the optimal
conditions for geminating healthy pinto beans?
  • 3. Testable Hypothesis We think chemical
fertilizer will work the better to germinate
healthy pinto beans because people buy so much of
it and they wouldnt buy it if it didnt work. It
will work better than eggshells or fruits and
    vegetable skins.

3
Materials
  • 3 plastic bags
  • 3 plastic cups
  • 30 pinto beans (10 in each cup)
  • 2-3 eggshells
  • 30-40 ml. Of chopped fruits and vegetable skins
  • 30-40 ml. Of chemical fertilizer
  • 200 ml. Of soil
  • 80-100 ml. of water

4
Procedures
  • First we label the cups and bags
  • Chop the fruits and vegetable skins and crush the
    eggshells
  • Fill the cups with 200ml. Of soil
  • Select 10 bean seeds and randomly spread them on
    the soil
  • Cover the beans with a thin layer of fertilizer
in 1 cup, the vegetables skins in another cup and
the crushed eggshells in the last
  • Then cover the fertilizers with soil
  • Put 30-40 ml. of water on top of the soil
  • Record your results and water the plants with
    4ml. Of water each day

Data Analysis
  • The fruits and veggie skins started out ahead in
germinating but then the Fruits Veggie skins
started locking in the moisture and the seeds got
all moldy and then the Eggshells got ahead.
  • The beans sprouted but none of them grew into
    plants.
  • All of the beans in the eggshells germinated and
fruits vegetable skins only germinated 7 beans.
The egg shells germinated 3 more beans than the
    fruits veggie skins.
  • The beans in the Fruits veggie skins got old
    and moldy.

9
Conclusion
  • Yes, our hypothesis was incorrect.
  • The fact that the veggie and fruit skins trapped
in moisture and molded the beans might have
    affected the experiment.
  • If we did our experiment again we would have
chopped the fruits and veggie skins finer so they
could not trap in moisture. Our new hypothesis
would be that the egg shells would work better
because of the calcium that they would provide
    the seeds.
  • Farmer Pham should use egg shells to fertilize
his pinto beans so they grow up healthy and
    strong.
