Title: Faculty Appointment Contracts FACs

1
Faculty Appointment Contracts (FACs)
  • Background
  • In 2000, SC CHE had already initiated
Performance Funding based on 57 scoring
    criteria several were faculty related.
  • MUSC source for supplying faculty information for
several criteria were dismal, at best.
  • In 2001, the Provost Faculty System was
    developed.
  • The prevailing thought was that SC required
annual contracts for all faculty. The Trustees
had recognized this earlier, stating that the
Faculty Handbook was (in part) the faculty
    contract.
  • We viewed individualized FACs as an avenue to
provide data to update the Provost Faculty System
on a regular basis. First FAC was in 2002 and
    had Faculty Senate Review.

  • The policies and procedures for termination,
grievance, and mediation by either the University
or the faculty member are set forth in Sections 7
and 8 of the Faculty Handbook.

(University) would make every reasonable effort
    to protect.
  • B. Non-recurring Salary.
  • Administrative Supplement. The amount associated
with an administrative duty that would not
    continue if the assignment terminated.
  • Other. Could be a non-recurring amount made in
    recognition of exceptional performance.
  • C. Incentive Salary (conditional and estimated).

  • Part V Acknowledgments and Agreements
  • applicable practice plan and associated
    contract(s) will govern those activities.
  • (Supplemental Section Insertion Point)
  • By signing this stated in Part II. I understand
that my responsibilities as described in Part IV
may be adjusted throughout the year based on the
    departmental instructional needs, changes in
    research priorities, alterations in clinical
service responsibilities, and the need to respond
    to unanticipated professional opportunities. In
such an event, a reasonable level of change may
be negotiated between (a) the department chair(s)
    and/or dean(s) and (b) me.
