Based at Woolfreys Pond Municipal Park
24 campsites, showers and 5 Kms of boarded
walking trails around the pond and to two
lookouts.

People, The Beothuk

Shoal Tickle/Birchy Island
This is approximately a 15 Km paddle to the site
of a Beothuck encampment where a Beothuck woman
struck a fisherman in the face with her moccasin
in order to escape from him.

Ochre Pit Island
This is approximately a 25 Km paddle with one
open crossing of about 1.5 Km to an island site
where Beothuck mined Red Ochre and where there
are five house pits to be seen in the beach.

Wisemans Cove
This is approximately a 12 Km paddle to the site
of a World War 2 Gun emplacement that protected
the port of Botwood. Bunkers and building
foundations are in good condition.

This is approximately a 32 km paddle around a
very large island in the mouth of the Exploits
River where early settlers wintered and built
schooners.
