- Make clear the role you would like the advisor to
take in the organization - Keep the advisor informed of the organizations
plans and problems - Make use of the advisors background and
experiences - Work out the tentative solutions to the problems
before going to the advisor whenever possible

- Observe lines of responsibility. Dont go over
his/her head or pass by him/her entirely. - Take initiative in arranging for regular
executive committee meetings with the advisor - Invite the advisor to all activities. Dont take
his/her attendance for granted. - Make him/her feel like a member of the
organization.

- Extend appropriate courtesies to the advisor and
his/her guest at special functions such as
dances, banquets, and meetings which include
important speakers - Show an appreciation for his/her services by
letter, by appropriate comments at meetings, and
other occasions, and personally

communication is what is yours? - Be up front from the start- it is hard to change
communication patterns - Be respectful in communicating dissatisfactions
- Communicating can solve the biggest problems
