- Internet is the highest achievement of man
- All information one needs from anywhere in the
world is merely a keyboard away!. - For medical Professionals it gives access to
reference libraries, research materials, access
journals, discussion with experts, tutorials,
research, even job hunting all over the world!!
All without geographical or other limitations.

- Not an organization, place, or object.
- No body owns Internet, not even any Government.
Virtual Global Society - Internet is simply collection of thousands of
interconnected small computer networks around the
globe all using the same software protocol
(FTP/IP) so as to exchange information uniformly
easily.

- No barriers regional, political or other.
- More than 20 million people are on internet.
- And is increasing tremendously every day!
- it is estimated that by year 2003 anyone with a

university.(IP protocol standard.) - 1972 - National Sci. Foundation (NSFnet)
- 1989 - Commercial International Membership eg.
Compuserve, ATT, etc) - 1992 - Tim Berners Lee of CERN lab, Geneva -
started World Wide Web. - 1994 - Population explosion on net with many
countries providing access.

- TCP/IP transfer protocol (part of new OS).

- Graphical interface using special text which when
clicked by mouse bring more information related
to the text. - Hyper Text have links to other pages located on
the same computer or any other computer anywhere
in the world. Links are also built into pictures
and drawings for easy navigation. (Hypermedia)
